I do hope that when it comes time for her to build her own lightsaber, it will be something like this. BTW, does anyone else suspect that Michael Arndt snuck in some KOTOR easter eggs while writing the first draft of the screenplay? Rey reminds me a bit of Bastila with her battle staff, Kylo Ren bears more than a passing resemblance to Revan in terms of appearance, and Starkiller Base, although not a weapons superfactory, is powered in a similar way (uses the energy from stars). If this was the case and there is any truth to my suspicions, then I'm glad those elements remained when it came time for Lawrence Kasdan to write subsequent drafts.

It's diffult to tell what Michael Arndt wrote sice they fired him and got Abrams and Kasdan got on the film. I don't know what remained of Lucas' ideas and his.
