Gazlene--Gaz for short--is her name. Membrane is merely used as a tentative surname, seeing as she & "brother" Dib are actually experimental clones created by the Professor, their "father", who doesn't have a name besides his title as Professor Membrane.

They're genetically engineered clones. So naturally, the Professor used different parts to create both of them. This brings them sort of in line with alien ZIM, who was himself--as was his people--created using machines, with the Irken body only serving as a physical shell, with the PAK serving as both brain & core nerve center, hence why ZIM nearly died in the unaired Ten Minutes 'Til Doom when Dib snatched the PAK off of ZIM's body. Luckily for the over-dramatic alien, it was Gaz, under a shrouded hood, who saved him from her brother in that episode. Why? Well, we know from the synopsis of Invader Dib--the potential finale--that Tak returns & manipulates Dib into mounting one last offensive against ZIM, only to have ZIM blast the two away to remote Saturn. With them disposed of, Gaz would have no one but ZIM to turn to, but then, that begs the question as to why she saved him from certain death if--as she has always claimed--she didn't care, one way or another, whether her brother or the Irken won their battle? Why save ZIM, thus tipping the scales in his favor, UNLESS she, uncharacteristically as this sounds, might actually CARE MORE about the Irken than she does the fate of presumably her own kind?

Well, the script & audio for Ten Minutes, complete with Gaz saving ZIM, is available on the first-release DVDs as part of the extras, since more episodes were planned yet never aired, just like with The Jungle Movie & the Daria-like series for Hey Arnold called The Pataki's. As for Invader Dib, the synopsis I presented in the previous post was one of many tentative ideas the cast & crew was considering for the TV movie finale, as was the idea of Dib winning & wiping out the Irken race, ZIM included (this would be after the finale battle in Battle of Meekrob).

In fact, it actually appears that both the synopsis I presented & the whole kill-all-Irkens thing are both part of the finale...

This was the 3-part episode that was to wrap the series up. Dib, under the control of the evil Meekrob, attempts to kill all living Irkens. In a rush to stop him, ZIM makes a tactical blunder [aka saying "Hey, look over there!"] and is sent into an asteroid. He dreams that all Irken life dies, but awakens in front of a hooded figure who tells him to fight. ZIM defeats Dib, and Dib is put into an Irken facility to save his mind. The hooded figure, who is really Gaz, blows up a detonation device, and ZIM becomes Tallest. GIR? He watches it on the local news with Minimoose. Although it cannot be verified, it is said that Dib, horribly scarred, became ZIM's tool of experimentation for warship weapon systems.
