Description This is my very first try at creating a game engine in Blitz. It is a single player top-down tile-based game with the rules and feel of a MUD. It is about 30% complete, but it is playable at its current state. Please only download to test and comment on it.
The engine so far is 100% written by myself(including pathfinding and AI) with the exception of the map save/import and BMPtext Lib.

All sprites not made by me are (C) to their respected owners. (this will change soon once I replace all the sprites with my own)

If anyone is interested in helping with making the sprites, please post here saying so.

One of the things I tryed to focus on was AI. The bots have several different states ranging from patroling, gaurding, fleeing, spying, hunting, and regrouping. Also, depending on the intelegence of the person/creature will determin how they use there states.

Any hints, tips, or comments are welcome!

This is pretty cool. I developed a tile engine in high school in C++ from scratch. I used Direct X 7 to do it with Visual C++. I never really made any games or demos with it, I just got it working and then ran out of time to spend on it and stopped working on it. Tile engines are fun though, and the things you can do with them are virtually limitless. The original Super Mario Bros games for NES were all tile engine games. I think the source code for the original SMB game is available online. You might be able to download that and see how it works by looking at the source. Looks good tho.

I never really liked how Direct X is implemented in C++. I just can't ahold of the logic of the workflow. OpenGL is crazy, but I find it a bit easier to deal with. Currently, I am looking for a decent expandable tile engine/library to start with. I really want to switch to C since Blitz does not deal with vertex lighting (and amoung other things).
