Description
Been digging this old book out recently... since it's been a while since I read anything!I'd had this idea for a crossover going around my head recently and I wanted to get it down, if only to test out that freeware Fire Alpaca drawing program.
It's very good at the lineart side, thanks to a "fade in/out" pen tool that can taper the ends of a brush-stroke for me!
Anyway, here we see a crossover of two different fantasy worlds.
Redwall Abbey and indeed all Mossflower stands on the brink of darkness, as Ganon-Cluny the Scourge seizes the Triforce of Power and threatens to plunge the woods into an eternal darkness!
Armed with the Triforce of Courage, Matthias-Link takes up the Master Sword of Martin the Warrior as Redwall's last hope - with the hopeful support of Princess Zelda-flower, keeper of the Triforce of Wisdom!
Redwall Abbey, Matthias, Cornflower and Cluny were created by Brian Jacques.
Link, Zelda and Ganondorf are the intellectual property of Nintendo.
And the artwork itself was digitally drawn by myself in Fire Alpaca.

Well, that certainly sounds about right... even if Matthias/Link was the main hero, and Cornflower/Zelda was more like the damsel-in-distress...

This is wonderful, If there are two things I like it is Redwall and The Legend of Zelda. I always knew that someone would combine the two and I would definitely say that I am very Impressed. I always knew that Matthias would make an excellent Link I especially love how the sword he arms himself with is also half Legend of Zelda inspired and Half Redwall inspired. Overall I think this is definitely a crossover I find to be brilliant.

Awww, thanks very much!
The idea sort of came to me after reading the book fairly recently for the first time in an absolute age!

Well, in the book, Cornflower is just a common fieldmouse.
But since I had Matthias as Link and Cluny the Scourge as Ganondorf, I needed someone for Princess Zelda... and as Matti's girlfriend, Cornflower had to fill that bill...

It would be so awesome if the world of Redwall and the world of The Legend of Zelda can coexist.

This is exactly how I envisioned when I watched the cartoon series as Matthias finding Martin's legendary sword is kinda like Link's quest for the Master Sword. Even Asmodeus is like a Zelda boss XD.
Awesome job, mate.

Heh, heh... funny coincidence, indeed...
I wonder what sort of Zelda boss Asmodeus comes closest to... he was certainly too cunning to be a Moldorm...
Thanks very much, mate!

Me personally, I consider Asmodeus not unlike Volvagia. I dunno why but they just seem similar to me just like Matthias/Link, Cornflower/Zelda & Cluny the Scourge/Ganondorf are similar to each other.
In fact, I find a number of Redwall characters being analogous to those of the ones from Zelda like Log-a-Log being similar to Darunia due to being leaders of their respective groups, Warbeak being similar to Ruto with the Sparras being similar to the Zoras, Constance being analogous to Impa, Abbot Mortimer or Methusulah to Rauru, among many more. Also, rewatching episodes from the first season, I noticed Constance refer to Matthias as having courage for 10 mice &, well, who else do we know of who is pure of courage & wields the triforce of such a thing? Another similarity: both Redwall & Zelda came out in 1986.
Overall though, this was an amazing portrait & a crossover which melds quite nicely.

Heh, that's certainly quite an allegory...
And to think Brian Jacques had a detestation of videogames or modern technology...
I wonder if one got inspiration from the other, or it was pure coincidence...
Thanks very much!

....I love Cluny with a red beard. There, I said it. Course this entire pic looks *AWESOME*!
There's such an incredible amount of detail in here. Cluny looks magnificently dastardly, with Matthias looking classically heroic (and Peter Pan-ish
) while Cornflower... its kinda hard for me to imagine her as a princess, because I associate her with dish-washing and other such scullery-maid-ish activities (which is weird, since I once wrote a story about a princess whose duties actually included those type of things).Β
(Hah, "Zelda-flower" )

I was going to add, the main inspiration behind this piece would have to be the ending of Twilight Princess...

Hands down, probably one of my favourite parts of the game (despite being the end) - and for a number of reasons...
First, in games like this, I've always been working myself up to this moment... duking it out man-to-man with the main antagonist himself in an epic final bossfight.
Secondly, the swordfight itself does makes for one epic final showdown, especially if played well.
Thirdly, the dark ominous battle music kicks some royal tail - it really sets the tone!

Kelaiah In reply to DCLeadboot [2017-02-18 21:27:26 +0000 UTC]
Oh yes, that was an epic boss fight. I certainly liked how you actually got to swordfight Ganondorf, unlike in Ocarina of Time where you just play tennis with him. Β
But yeah, all those are good reasons for why this was awesome.

DCLeadboot In reply to Kelaiah [2017-02-19 20:48:12 +0000 UTC]
Heh, yeah... the battle came in four parts, and the Ganon Tennis part was only the first phase, when he possesses a comatose Zelda to attack you, and you and Midna have to expel him to save her.
Second phase, his conciousness regathers itself in the Dark Beast Ganon form that Link has to match by using his Wolf transformation.
In the third phase, the battle is taken to Hyrule Field, where Link and Zelda pursue Ganondorf on horseback and stun him with Light Arrows to attack him.
Finally unhorsed, he faces Link one on one in a last sword battle!
Actually, you do also face him in a swordfight at the end of Wind Waker too... only he's dual-wielding and you'll need Zelda to assist with her Light Arrows!

Kelaiah In reply to DCLeadboot [2017-02-19 21:40:50 +0000 UTC]
Heh heh, it wouldn't be a fight with Ganondorf if it wasn't a tennis match. But yes, when I first read about the final battle with Ganondorf in one of those cheat-books, I was astonished that there were so many parts to the final battle. It just seemed to go on and on.Β
Really? Oh wow. Its funny how Wind Waker has the most child-like design, yet its arguably one of the darkest installments in the game. ^^

DCLeadboot In reply to Kelaiah [2017-02-20 09:55:23 +0000 UTC]
Heh yeah...
Seems even Demon Lord Ghirahim from Skyward Sword would attempt a sort of Ganon-Tennis type attack the final time you fight him, using a dark version of a Skyward Strike (where you hold your sword/WiiMote Plus vertical to charge with an energy attack - the Motion Plus control lets it pick up the way your holding the remote so that it truly becomes an extension of yourself, allowing for more realistic swordfighting)
To return Ghirahim's skyward strike, you have to slash in the direction it comes (if it's vertical, use an upward or down strike - if it's horizontal, use a left or right strike... otherwise the blast just flies off harmlessly at a tangent instead of being shot back at him)
This is rather finicky to pull off though (I never managed it) and not necessary to win... but I imagine that if you did manage to return it enough times, he'd miss and get stunned, allowing an opening for attack.
Still, easier opportunities present themselves just by deflecting his attacks with your shield and stabbing him while he recovers...

Heh, strange how surprisingly good Wind Waker is, for all the "awful" or "cheap looking" graphics...

Yeah, and to think, its Wind Waker they've based Breath of the Wild's style off of.

I guess so... still not the same as actually experiencing the game first-hand, of course...
Like, I first got into the idea of getting Tomb Raider Anniversary after I saw the final boss-battle between Lara and Natla... and to experience the battle for myself made the game worth getting!
(At least the Tomb Raider games are generally available for PC, so not beyond my reach)
