Description
A cute little scene that must surely have taken place a few seasons after the events of the book "Mattimeo"Over time, the young Redwallers all grew up and matured, while Matthias, Constance, Basil Stag Hare, Abbot Mordalfus and the other elders grew older and started tutoring them in careers that they would later succeed to in the next generation.
Mattimeo himself quickly grew up into a sturdy and responsible young warrior-mouse, no doubt to succeed his father Matthias as the next Champion of Redwall and bearer of the Sword of Martin.
Having put his bratty past-self behind him, he has developed into a hotheaded, snarky yet well-meaning teenager, maintaining a dry sense of humour and mischief, though no longer mean-spirited or rebellious.
In this picture, Mattimeo gained a little private time with his old childhood friend and long-time sweetheart Tess Churchmouse, who was ever a gentle and refining influence in his life.
Knowing that it wasn't worth hiding his feelings from her, since she knew him too well, the young mouse put aside his tough exterior long enough to ask her the most serious question of his life - and she accepted.
Then he did something even more unexpected and kissed her!
Mattimeo & Tess Churchmouse are the intellectual property of the late great Brian Jacques.
Picture drawn by me.
Traced and coloured in Flash.
(You'll note, although I followed the costumes and character designs of the Nelvana series, I still prefer to draw them in my own style - for instance, giving Tess more hair, instead of leaving her "bald" like they did...)

Awww, thanks very much!
Even though my style has improved a bit further since then, they're still sweet together and I always loved these characters!

Aww, yeah... I was aiming to show how much Mattimeo had matured, I guess, for him to be so open with his emotions! Came out rather sweet!
Thanks very much!

Heh, heh... well, I think everybeast was kind of expecting they'd get together eventually...
Say, did you ever read through the fanfic me and a friend collabed on? There's been a serious lack of feedback on it... [link]

Ah this and the description along with it is charming and great shading! And it is funny to see her with this pony tail but the creativity is nice

Thanks very much!
As he developed, the mature young warrior-mouse that Mattimeo became was always one of my favourite characters.
The fact that Brian Jacques never developed his life-story further only left a gap for me to fill!
If you look in my literature folder, I recently finished an "RP-based" Redwall fanfic that me and a friend worked on via devNote, which I later wrote up. Perhaps it'll be worth a read...?

Now I think that's a little funny because for some reason, I never was really fond of Mattimeo but I do admit, his character growth was awesome and really changed my opinion of him. Who are your favorite characters?
Wow I'll definately have to check that out, you hardly ever find good Redwall fanart/fics if any at all!

Yup, as I said - I liked who Mattimeo became. I didn't like his past bratty-self.
It would take me a while to go through all my favourite characters here - but I did once fill out a journal with a Redwall Quiz that I copied off a friend. [link]
This gives quite a bit of info on my Redwall fanship - including favourites and unfavourites!
Let's hope our little offering is among the "good" fanfics. Although he was often having his raccoon-dog character stealing a lot of spotlight, I in my turn tried to give some spotlight back to the regular cast - and to some Redwall characters of my own...

Boy, your favorites are sure a surprise! I was almost shocked at the fact that you enjoy so many villans! I'm a sucker for Basil Stag Hare myself, but let's face it, who isn't xD? Matthias was my first favorite and will always retain a fond place in my heart I'm so glad you like Denya and Lord Brocktree, for some unexplainable reason they were just so likeable
I have to re-read all of his wonderful novels for I forget many other characters that were not the very main character but for example, I adore some of the ships regardless if they are official or not like Dandin and Mariel and Tarquin and Hon Rosie, ah so sweet!
I give you a lot of credit, you are a hard core that has really dedicated themselves to this fandom and has such a good grasp on multiple casts and novels, wonderful work!
I will have to check it out although I have never been fond of OCs...I haven't found the charm in them and perfer to read/write about characters established in that world(unless they are the future children you can get away with that), you know?

Funny though, villains are often the most interesting characters - anyway, the well-written ones...
Yup, sometimes you can't explain it, but you just know when certain characters are the best characters in the story...
Always liked Dandin and Mariel together - hence the introduction of the travelling moouse Darien, who sort of became a go-between. He can visit Danbuster's world, but he also pops up in the Redwall fanfic - despite supposedly being Mariel's son, the whole thing about travelling between worlds means that he can show up anywhere! (As suggested in the Narnia series, the time flow between different worlds is unpredictable - at least that's how I see it)
Thanks!
Yup, it does appear that Drew tried to introduce a number of his own characters, and it wasn't always easy to give screentime to the regulars - got a number of OCs in the fic myself, though... notably, the Long Patrol (since Brian Jacques never established who later served Orlando the Axe at Salamandastron, that was an unavoidable gap that had to be filled somehow)

I completely understand that and you're right, I still never really enjoy them all that much because...they're EVIL! Hahah nah, some are very cool and it's almost tragic that they all have to die in Redwall. I'm sure they could be conformed to live a pleasant life in the Abbey But then they'd probably have an uprising and massacre them all...
See I like that, that's a cool combination of using a plot and known characters to make a new one so your Darien sounds very interesting and I also like his name!
Hmm I don't know what I think of that many ocs, I think one is bad enough haha. But I'll give it a shot!
Oh yes, I wish that Jacques had given us a bit more closure on what happened but hey, at least it gives room for the imaggination xD

I always think there has to be a reason behind everyone's actions - even villains... which is why I hate characters like Swartt Sixclaw or Vilu Daskar, who were just in it "For the Evulz " - at least Cluny was power-hungry... or Slagar was just insane...
As for Badrang - he crossed the Moral Event Horizon when he killed Laterose, so I definitely hate him!
I had thought that Darien - a portmanteau of Dandin and Mariel - was completely original... but then I discovered it is a real name.
Even the middle Doug Walker the Nostalgia Critic happens to be Darien!
But still, I like the name anyway.
The imagination is like an uncharted ocean... you never know what you'll find...

I completely agree...I mean, they have to be evil for a reason! I hate pointless violence especially so man, some of those guys were such a pain! That is why I enjoyed Slagar, he was a very interesting character, and I especially liked how dramatic he was in the tv series
Hahah I had no clue about that either! I had never hard the name Darien before so I thought you made it up

Yeah...
Must admit, I didn't used to like Slagar in the book 'cos he was so horrible - but Tim Curry's voice really raised his charisma level in the TV series!
Technically, I had made it up... not knowing it already existed!

They won't equal Brian Jacques for that series - beyond the fan-fics we might make ourselves, I don't see how we could really expand on that world... and we're best just developing the characters we liked most - as I did with Mattimeo (who remained only a child in the book)
That said, though, I have a fan-character called Darien Firedart... but he's more the travelling type who can range between Mossflower and Danbuster's world, bringing anachronisms to other place! (Out-of-place modern references in Mossflower, or medieval references in the United Animal Kingdom)

Yeah, I prefer them with hair - never could understand why they give the male characters those ragged little quiffs and things, but left the female characters smooth and "bald" on top...

Yeah
But personally her ponytail turned me off, it just didn't seem to fit her image.
When you think about it Rose doesn't seem like the kind of character who would primp herself up like that, she always seemed too humble to care about that kind of thing.

Yeah, I guess that's true... even with my version of Mariel, while she has shoulder-length hair, it's all loose - liable to fly about in the wind while she's battling the foebeast!
I guess Boudica must have had similar problems, though...
