Description

Ozzie picked his coffee cup back up after seeing his girls get on the bus for school outside the window. He look a long sip followed by a deep breath and headed to Spencer’s room. He gently pushed the door open and sat down near his son and gently ran his fingers through his hair and rubbed his back softly until the toddler stirred in his sleep.

“Hey bud. Good morning.” Ozzie said softly to him. The colt stirred and stretched a bit before opening his eyes to his father. “It’s time to wake up. It’s Thursday, we have a busy day.” He said in a soft smile. The foal sat up and snuggled into his father’s arm, Ozzie kissed the top of his head and got off the bed, the colt soon following with the pitter patter of his socked feet.

“What should we make for breakfast?” Ozzie asked, picking his coffee cup up again. Spencer’s ears were turned to something else. “breakfast?” Ozzie repeated, getting his attention back.

“mums. Mums. Mums!” Spencer said loudly in a smile.

“Muffins, alright.” Ozzie laughed with a nod of his head. He turned to the cupboard to grab a muffin mix, bowls and tins. He turned to place the items on the counter and noticed Spencer using the drawer handles to climb up the counter grabbing for his coffee mug. Ozzie’s hand grabbed the mug from his reach and Spencer climbed back down with a sound of distraught.

“Give!” Spencer whined up at his father, tears starting to well.

“Buddy it’s coffee. You won’t like it.” He burst into tears and he hugged himself into his father’s chest, gripping his shirt tight and screamed into him, his usual go to sign of frustration. Thank god the biting had stopped.

“Hey, hey, it’s coffee. You won’t like it. I can get you some juice. Juice is good.” Ozzie said after Spencer let out his initial scream. He was still crying as Ozzie poured him some juice and handed the cup to him. He pushed it back to his father and bawled again for his coffee.

“alright, here. Try it.” Ozzie sighed in a shrug. Spencer was silenced as the cup was placed in his hands. He brought it to his lip and sipped a little, his nose wrinkling up and his brows scrunching down. His tongue hung out and he handed the mug back to his father to wipe his tongue off on his shirt. Ozzie chuckled.

“I told you. What did we learn?” he asked his son as he knelt down and handed him his juice back. Spencer scowled at him and took a long gulp of his juice. “Hey, are you mad? I told you you wouldn’t like it, you didn’t listen.” Ozzie said in a smile. He grabbed a chair from the dining room and dragged it over to the counter for Spencer to stand on to help make the muffins. Ozzie gave him very precise one at a time directions to help make muffins. Stopping only a few times to clean up a mess or take a tool away that became a new distraction.

After they were in the oven Ozzie looked at his watch. “We have 20 minutes. Let’s hurry and get dressed. We have to go to the store after breakfast.”

         “no!” Spencer outburst.

“Hurry! We have to beat the muffins! Get ready before they are!” Ozzie encouraged, leading the way to his room. Spencer quickly followed. Ozzie got into Spencer’s closet and pulled out three different shirts. “Which one?” Ozzie asked his son. Spencer didn’t hesitate and chose his favorite shirt. He had already been through one and Ozzie kept it in the next size up in the back of the closet. “How did I know?” Ozzie smiled. He grabbed a pair of pants for the toddler as well.

“Lets run go potty before we get dressed.” Ozzie said taking the fresh clothes to the bathroom and helping Spencer continue his potty training, still an ongoing battle. He then helped Spencer change his clothes and watched as he brushed his teeth. He tended to have a habit of brushing the sink afterward, which if prevented would result in another tantrum. Spencer handed his toothbrush back to Ozzie without a fuss and gurgled water in his mouth.

“You’re being pretty good today bud.” Ozzie smiled as his son kept refilling his mouth and spraying water to clean the bowl of the sink. “Okay, I think you got it all.” Ozzie said after a moment and wiped his face with the towel. Spencer’s face scowled up at him for a moment before turning into a smirk.

“What?” Ozzie asked after wiping his face. Spencer squirted water from his mouth onto his fathers face and exploded in laughter and squealing. Ozzie tried not to laugh and kept his face straight as best as he could. “Spencer, that wasn’t nice.” He said calmly, keeping Spencer’s hands from clapping as he tried to discourage the misbehavior. “Don’t be mean to daddy.” He said softly. “Make me sad.” He said making a pouty lip. Spencer’s face changed and his hugged his father and gently took the towel from him and wiped the bridge of his nose and muzzle. Ozzie smiled. “Good boy. I forgive you.” He said as Spencer draped the towel over his ears.

Spencer’s ear turned as the oven alarm started to beep.

“BEEP BEEP BEEEP BEEEP!” he imitated. Spencer fled to the kitchen and waited impatiently for his father to get there to take their muffins out.

Ozzie gently pushed his son back as he pulled an oven mitt on and opened the oven door to pull the tray of muffins out and sit them ontop of the stove. Ozzie flipped the muffins out of their tin onto a cooling rack and placed the hot tin far out of reach to cool. Spencer tugged at his shirt and made beeping noises.

“We have to let them cool down. They’re hot hot.” Ozzie said down to his son patiently, the tears started to well up again. “It’s okay. What do you need to have breakfast.” Spencer was distracted by the question and looked around. He pointed at the muffins. Ozzie smiled. “You need a plate.” He said going to a cupboard and handing his son a plastic plate. Spencer ran it over to the table. “and your juice.” Ozzie said handing that to him as well. “and…a hug…” Ozzie said as he grabbed him mid zoom and squeezed him as he giggled. The colt was still hyped up and kicked and thrashed his legs, hitting Ozzie right in the genitals once, hard enough to knock the wind out of him. He set Spencer down with a gasp, trying not to laugh again. The colt didn’t realize and it was probably more of Ozzie’s fault of judgement to pick on him mid hype. Ozzie mouthed “fuck” as he cringed for a moment before pulling himself up to finally get the kid his breakfast. He brought his son a muffin unwrapped and cooled.

“I think im going to need to invest in a cup with you.” He laughed as Spencer was focusing on his breakfast. Spencer handed his juice up to him. Ozzie laughed heartily. “Yep, cup.” He said before leaving for a moment to change his clothes and catch his breath a little more. He returned and got himself a muffin and a refill on his coffee and sat with Spencer to eat their breakfast.
