I've always wanted to be optional but advised.I figured it would mean I was the best candidate
THEY HAD ANOTHER OPTION
BUT THEY CHOSE ME!
-because they liked me more.
One day I realized
people only do what's advised because
-it's better for them
NOT BECAUSE THEY CARE FOR YOU!
Now I never want to do what's 'optional but advised'
BREATHING IS OPTIONAL BUT ADVISED!

actually, in most cases people advise themselves to do what's most appealing to them. If people did what was best for them, Bush wouldn't have been president.

even then, outside advice is often just propaganda trying to convince others to prefer the things that you want them to prefer.

You're right in what you've been saying it's just that it wasn't what I meant in the poem. The girl has a misconception and she structures her life to function according to the idea that being ideal will equal love and care. She faces the truth. Her reality has shattered. The End. No need to get into the actual meaning of it because it's not about what it is but what she think it is.

Not really. I was looking at my IGCSE schedule and it said "optional but advised: bring sweater", etc. I liked the phrase and created a story. Disillusionment is a big theme in my head but that's about it. The whole 'I raised myself to be the "advised", "right choice"' person is just the character.
