Two characters of mine who have managed to survive for years without any role playing outlet or anything. I love them that much. Basically what I did was trace over a couple of stock photos with thick lines, editing them there and there to fit the characters and my style better. Then I painted them in, using the stock as reference for realistic markings. The originals are huge, and it was a serious piece of work. All the painting was done on one layer, as well. The background is also a stock photo that I used to layers of to intensify the colors.
To the owners of the stock photos: I hope this counts as valid use of your stock. It's not quite a photomanipulation, but it's not exactly a plain recolor, either. If any of you have a problem with the way your stock is used, send me a note and I will take this down.
