Description
I've had this image in my head for a while. While I liked how the lineart turned out, I couldn't get the colors to work how I wanted. :/Also, Marcello looks really young with his hair down wtf

Edit: Added some more ambient water drops to tie everything together

That towel in the back looks.. so soft.. I want to touch it...
I like that you're breaking away from "characters standing in random space" which isn't bad btw I do it aaaaaall the time too >w> (SPAAAAACE) but it's just so much nicer this way. I always love seeing characters in their natural environments doing stuff.
I was also going to yell about how dare he shave in no shave november but then I realized this was submitted in october, so I almost had a fail all over your comments page. And what a mess that would have been.

>u> I doubt he'll notice if it went missing
Yeah I really have that problem with "random space ahoy" OTL I need to stop being so lazy with backgrounds
LOL Good job Jen

Naw it's not always lazyness, at least for me, sometimes I just feel like drawing them standing around.
I always do good jobs don't you forget it.

also you did a good job on the anatomy!
>.> although and this is just me, i would love to see you try and do more things with your line art,

Thanks so much <3
I personally only like that with horror/grungy pieces if color is involved. Otherwise I think it looks really messy and unappealing

I wonder if elves get chest hair? probably not, they're like the asians of the fantasy world...
Hm. His hair still looks a bit clumpy and rigid even out of the shower.

He's a vampire, actually XD And he does, as well as general body hair. He shaves everywhere (Their hair grows, but at a much slower pace, and is dependent on if they've ingested enough blood to use on minor bodily tasks such as hair growth)
I'll work on that! Though in my experience, my hair clumps like mad when wet, and is more fwippy. Of course I have thick, curly hair, so. Wet hair is so freaking hard to draw dfghdhk

...is he a vampire elf or are all vampires super-eary?
well it clumps, but it clumps directly to the skin! often in a big, wet mass.

It's dependent on the vampire, lol. Most of my older vampires have long ears to kinda signify their age
Right out of the shower, that's true! But after it's been wrung out once with a towel, not so much. It'll still be slightly drippy (as the water at the roots moves to the ends of the hair), but it won't be so "STICK TO EVERYTHING"-y

I really like how clean your lineart is here. Also the shading seems to have turned out quite well.
I like the effect of the light casting across the image making it look like a mirror. The water drops definitely help too.
You are one of the few anime artists I've seen that will actually add nipples to their guys.
With your lineart, don't be afraid to thin it up in areas where the highlights are a bit blown out. Areas I would apply this here would be the ball of his shoulder (arm closest to us), the top part of his ear towards the tip, and maybe even the knuckles of the fingers (the hand on the sink top). Play with lineart. Especially in your soft shading works. Once you have it drawn out you can easily go back and change the color or opacity of certain areas depending on how you did the shading.

Thanks so much!
I'm glad you're able to easily tell it's a mirror. I was a bit worried it'd be hard to tell.
I used to not draw them, but my style eventually got to the point where they just looked plain strange without them. And thus my men all spontaneously grew nipples \o/
I thank you so much for the advice! However, I personally just choose to not bother with line weight as a stylistic choice. (And with this particular piece, he'd kinda blend into the background if I'd done that, given he and the background are both very pale.) I've fiddled with it before and had unsatisfactory results that I personally didn't like the look of. Still, I'll be sure to keep your advice in mind if I ever want to mess with line weight again!

I remember that development in my style. My guys grew nipples. Shortly followed by body hair.
You'll have a lot of unsatisfactory results at first. I did when I first messed with it. What I found works best is subtlety. You don't need to make obvious weight changes. Really just some very slight opacity changes so that it's not so bold of a black line next to an intense highlight. I encourage you to play with it a bit. I really think it would help tie your lines and shading together. What I do is just take the eraser on a very low opacity (about 15 or 20) and have the flow on about 50 and lightly go over the line area in question just so that the line can feel some of the lighting effects as well.
Actual line weighting doesn't work very well for my style either where some lines are way thinker or thinner than other areas. I just put slight opacity variances on highlight areas.
As far as him blending into the background, if you did it in very small areas to accentuate the highlighted area and did it subtlety I don't think he would blend quite so much. You want him to blend to an extent. Right now he seems entirely separate from his setting. He has this continuous stark black line work around him and the setting is so ambient and soft. He doesn't really seem grounded to his setting.
Understand I'm not trying to get you to go back and change this. I know how it is, once you're done with a piece, you just want to be done. But for your soft shading style in the future try experimenting with making the lineart work with your lighting choices. Obviously this isn't something that will just work the next time you try it. It'll take some playing around with the idea.
Holy crap, I typed a lot.

That's pretty much how it went for me too XD Marcello here just keeps himself clean shaven for "the ladehs~" I do, however, have characters that do have body hair (I just never post them)
I personally enjoy the lines I use. This, of course, is my own taste, and doesn't mean your opinion is wrong or irrelevant! However, I don't really want to change my lineart style as of now. As I said, I'll keep what you said in mind if I ever do want to play around with that.

Woman and their clean shaven men. Can't say much. That's more my taste too.
To each their own. Tastes and opinions change. I'm just letting you know mine. That's all I'm really doing with my critique is just letting you know, that way if you get to a point where you feel your technique needs tweaking you may have an idea of what direction you may want to go in.

I'm not a huge fan of facial hair, although it does depend on the guy for the most part. I like enough body hair to know the guy has hit puberty but nothing like back or chest hair. That's just... too much. Happy trails are sexy though.

I'm a sucker for some kinds of facial hair, like goatees <3 Though like you say, it usually depends on the guy. I don't mind a little chest hair, but back hair and underarm hair just make me go "eguheguehegh"
