The automation does most of the work. The warlords drone force just has to secure the trainees cuffs to the chain and the computer starts the winch that pulls the chain tight. Once locked in place, the drone seals the door and the process begins. It take only about an hour. Then the trainees can be controlled by the computer. The warlord doesn't understand the process, but he doesn't care as long as the computer does what he orders.
