Description
Captain was a pony and gray at that. Always there was Captain for every little boy and girl. Small and stout he was perfect for the short legs of little kids. Very old was Captain. His age we are not sure. Maybe 34 or 28, maybe even 29. His age we will never know, but that is not important now. He can get no older than he is today. It was a hot day in May when Captain decided to take his very last run. For Captain can run no more. He ran very fast the fastest I’ve ever seen. From here to there and back again. His last run was fun. With no one on his old tired back. We banged the fence and Captain came. He came to us all lucid and clear. We gave him his breakfast like every morning. Went to get another horse we did. No one was in the barn when Captain takes his fall. Bang his head he did on the post to the door. No broken bones or anything like that. Didn’t eat his breakfast or anything like that. Fallen and can’t get back up again. We try and try to calm him down. His eyes glazed over as he shakes with seizures. He felt no pain with his brain comatose. Suddenly his legs go stiff, stiff as a board. Now poor Captain is dead. Poor Captain my sweet Captain. Captain of all the horses in his barn, even his small stature didn’t keep him from his goal. People come to the barn and Captain is dead. Died suddenly a shock to us all. They look into the Captain’s stall as I tell my sad tale. As my tale ends in comes two more. Sweet old men are they. They’ve come to help with poor old Captain. Then wait for the lady that owns the barn. When she left she told me loud and clear. “Don’t move Captain till I get back.” We wait a while for her to return. The two men remove a board from the fence to get the Captain out to his final resting place. We take some chains and tie them around poor Captain’s legs and attach them to a truck. Then the lady returns and on goes the truck as we slowly walk behind. Watching Captain drag. Slowly and surely we come to the spot. Where the Captain will be buried. We grab some shovels and start to dig. Slowly, but surely the hole grows in size. One digger gets heat stroke and sits under a tree nearby to be joined by a Haflinger. We dig and we dig till the hole is just the right size. We move the Captain into his final resting place. We say our good byes as we move the dirt back in. Good-bye dear Captain, Captain of all the horses. You stole a few hearts and mine as well. The day is finished my tale is over. Poor Captain, my Captain had his very last run. Enjoyed it so, but all good things come to an end. Just like Captain’s ending today.Related content

What an interesting story. It's very deepish, but sorta differs in a good way. I like it's style of story telling. Very nice.
