Shantae isn't really an indipendent character on account of the company WayForward being a bigger known company. not in the likes of Mojang, but moreso than Yacht Club

WarForward is an Independent Game Developer. Has been since 1990. Being a bigger or more well known company has nothing to do with anything.
Indie Games are nothing new, and have existed since video games began. It's only really in the last decade or two they've begun to draw in alot more attention among the mainstream/AAA crowds due to the growing PC and Mobile market for video games. That, and alot of people aren't willing to spend more money for less game, when people are making games for less that offer alot more.

Wow, for an indie company, they certainly have worked on some big well known games and franchises like Batman, Boy and his Blob, Centipede, Despicable Me, TMNT, Adventure Time, Looney Tunes, Sponge Bob, DuckTales, and so many more.
You have to admit, they are probably one of the bigger well known indie companies if they are getting a lot of positions like those.

Right. I guess when I think of indie developers, I think of companies who are but a few people who have made one game at max. like Yacht Club, HDMR, Playtonic games, Team Cherry, etc.
