Description
The mandrake root, also called Alraune or Mandragora, has a curiously humanoid looking root, which makes it object of many superstitions. It is said, if you rip the root out of the gound without proper protection, it will give of a deadly wail, but if harvested and treated correctly it is a powerful talisman or can be used as an ingredient to potent potions and spells. It is also said, the mandrake grows out of the last spilled seed of a hanged criminal. To the alchemist, the later is a veiled allusion to the creation of a homunculus.

So, after I send my old mandrake prop off I seem to have promted the prolific paul-rosenkavalier to make his own takes of the humanoid root. His are most likely inspired by the depictions in the Hortus sanitatis , a book on healing herbs from the end of the 15th century.

As I was already kind of missing my old dust catcher, really liked his take AND just happen to have come across a new technique for creating roots I just had to make a new one. I stuck to the female version (what can I say, I find it aesthetically pleasing this way) and tried for a more dynamic pose than my last version. Nothing more to say about it.
