Description
This is supposed to be Mycena Clarkeana, but I believe it borders the order of fantastic fungi, as the model for this painting is not as vividly colored. I hope you will enjoy it regardless.Related content

Nice painting! I like the texture and the higlights which show the wetness of the surface. Color differences are cool as well! I saw similar fungi IRL (but with a brown color instead), this looks very realistic =]

Yeah, they were a bit more brownish in the reference too, but the purple/pink makes them look more magical and interesting, so I tried it out. If I ever try drawing magical items (another idea for a challenge) this would come in handy.

Definitely, this shade is more interesting!
And it's a good idea to continue your challenge with something imaginative after you spent a lot of time practicing realistic paintings. This transition will add another level of complexity though!

I know... and I dread a bit the fact that I would have to come up with some sort of magical item with a backstory on a daily basis... I mean, I'm not sure I'm up for it. I will have to test out my abilities and choose something I would be at least a little bit ready for it. Something that needs improving, but that is not totally beyond my abilities yet.

This is reasonable. Trying to do something hard can hinder learning process and frustrate the artist... If it's too difficult.

Yup. I'll have to test myself during the following days.
