Tools: Photoshop CS3. This time I also made use of the heavy, thick media brushset, which I'd never tried before. It was responsible for a lot of the background!

References: I did not use any references this round, due to time constraints between my work schedule and the due date.

Content: As they plummet through the air, several Alices collide across multi-dimensions.

Fallen Alice - This is Alice from a timeline in which she was turned by the Fallen Stars and joined their ranks. She hungers for the rangers around her, regardless of the fact that they represent what she could have been: she doesn't care if, once, she would have fought alongside them, instead of trying to consume them.

Bullet Train Ranger: Robot Alice - This is Alice from a timeline in which, during a battle prior to the colonization of Mars, she lost an arm to a blast that Alice Prime successfully dodged. When the arm was replaced by the Blue Matrix Ranger, who'd been researching Digital Demon Ranger's transformative abilities as a means of medical treatment for such massive injuries, Alice was originally grateful. Later, as time passed and the dormant programming within the prosthetic became active, she realized that she had not been cautious enough. Blue Matrix's grief for her lost friends and family had driven her to begin a concentrated effort to turn everyone among the rangers into androids so they could never be hurt or killed. The Bullet Train Ranger may still have her mental faculties, but her body is controlled by the steadily spreading robotic infection from the prosthetic arm.

Mercy Ranger: Bad Luck Babe Alice - In her timeline, Alice wished never to be forgotten. This slightly different wording in her wish led to an entirely different career as a Ranger. She has worked alone for years and prefers it that way, for the sake of those around her.

About: It was extremely enjoyable to come up with alternate universe versions of Alice. Alice Prime, in fact, is not the true Alice-- in the story that she comes from, she's from a Bad timeline where everybody's life sucks. When things get fixed, she gets to live, instead of dying alone on Mars. So-- the concept is definitely one I was familiar with.

Difficulties I encountered this time mostly had to do with time. I've just started a new job and I'm working a lot of overtime to make sure I know the ropes, so I had little time to actually work on my entry! I had a basic idea of the story I wanted to tell about Alice and her other selves, and I definitely had a few ideas of the poses I wanted to do. Coloring wise, picking a theme for each AU self was tough. Originally I was going to have them all be different colors, but then I thought it might be a little strange to have Alice look so wildly different, in a pink outfit or a blue outfit or whatnot. In the end I went with very simple shading for time reasons, and very similar, though not totally identical, color schemes. This way each Alice is a little differentiated from the other while still looking similar enough.

The big last minute change is actually Fallen Alice. All of my designs were for her to be a big, menacing beast on all fours. I even thought of making her some kind of twisted centaur-like thing. Then I came to the concern that she'd be totally unrecognizable as Alice, and decided it as more important to make it clear who she was than to make her into a creepy monster.

Other notes: I did upload a couple of sketches early in the round that include Mercy Ranger and Fallen Alice .

I will be uploading further work detailing my creative process tomorrow, but tonight I am trying to get my work up for the contest deadline so I can finally rest. Check back later for additional sketches!
