Description for my children's book illustration class. we were supposed to anthropamorphize an animal. i hated this project. animals should be animals, not dressed up in suits or dresses or what ever, so i just did a squirrel as a squirrel should be.

I agree with you on one part of the anthropomorphism bit(God help us all if I happen to open a can of worms with this one), and squirrels should be squirrels, as you say.
But there is a way to get around dressing them up while still anthropomorphizing them, and I hate to say it, but you could have had squirrels go to squirrel school, have squirrel romances, and get squirrel jobs.

Why don't I want to say this? Well, what people don't realize this is that half the time, animals go through most of this, so it really isn't anthropomorphizing, but I don't know where you stand on that, which is why I didn't want to open a can of worms with this.

My stance on this is that squirrels don't go to school, have romances or get jobs, they're just squirrels, they eat, shit, sleep and procreate. as cute as they are, there's nothing much going on in their little squirrel brains. I feel this way about most animals. There are exceptions, of course. A children's book about animals that actually have jobs, like seeing-eye dogs, messenger birds and animals used in films would make sense and probably be pretty darn cool. Thanks for the feed-back. It is always welcome.

she didn't like it, accually, it wasn't anthorpomorphized enough, and the elements don't work together, or something to that effect...

that is her opinion. i tend to agree with you that a squirrel should be just that... not a furry or anthro... im really not into turning animals into humans.. the animals must hate that lol
