It is a great concept, 100%. Unfortunately the 'flash in my brain' that led to the concept was more likey a rememberance of the classic Saul Bass poster for Bunny Lake Is Missing. See [link]
Saul Bass was a genius at this kind of lateral thinking... if you don't know his work (and are interested in graphic design) then you should check him out.

perhaps you could have made the kid more androgynous tho, considering that all sorts of kids get lost. idk, just a thought.
