Description
I was alone,
Chilled to the bone,
And my heart was sinking,
Sinking like a stone.

I was on the rooftop,
Looking down,
Wondering if I jumped
How long it would take to hit the ground.

I was listening,
To the harsh whispering wind,
Goading me to jump and fall,
So into it I grinned.

I tiptoed with caution
Along the slick slanted edge
On my left there there was life
On my right there was death.

I was on a tightrope,
But I was totally free,
I no longer cared
what could happen to me.

I looked over rooftops,
Slate straight alpine mountains,
Glistening wet
gutters spluttering water like fountains.

I wasn't upset or depressed
Just alone.
I was forgotten and possessed
Seeking to atone.

In moments I had reached the end of the roof.
Here I was standing in the moment of truth.
My foot hovered over the empty abyss,
My mind was racing but I had no time to reminisce.

In a moment I was dropping,
A canon ball ground bound.
Waiting for darkness
but it was not found.

I opened my eyes,
Saw bright black night skies,
And a girl I would never forget,
Smiling at me in her favorite turtle neck.

'Hey' she said,
So casually
As if she wasn't dead
I had no time to question my sanity.

So this is what I said:

'You have no idea how I've missed you,
How every day I've choked.
On the words I could have said to you'
And that was when I broke.

She just smiled that school girl smile,
As if nothing was amiss,
Put a hand around my shoulder,
Like she was my big sis.

'I'm sorry I left you,
I felt so alone,
The water was so welcoming
and sadness had me overthrown'

She stopped for a moment,
And I noticed her wings,
Not the white of an innocent
But the deep red of sins.

'Sometimes I want to take back
The things I have done.
Wake up again
and feel the warmth of the sun'

She turned to me,
Green eyes full of emotion
She hugged me too tight,
She was cold and wet like the ocean.

'So don't follow me,
because here it is cold,
here is it lonely and you never get old.
Live for us both,
That's all I'm asking you
And I'll look over your shoulder
And feel like I'm living too.'

And that's when I woke up,
Back in my bed,
I think it was a dream,
But I'll never forget what she said
