It was the funniest thing ever said,
"Tone down your originality"
The words echoed around in my head,
"As if one could so easily change their mentality."
But I had to wonder as I lay there in bed,
"were they questioning my individuality?".
Perhaps the wolves at my door had not been fed,
"They desire to destroy my unique personality".
I'll admit to being a freak
Who never made it into any clique,
Never dressed all chic,
Or was an amateur fashion critique.
Just a happy pariah,
Watching the house of cards fall.
Alone but not lonely
Just numb to feeling at all.
Didn't wear pink,
Wasn't a shallow fool.
Didn't need high heels
To help me feel tall.
Heck yeah,
I am definitely original,
For better or for worse.
But I really don't care what they say,
So I don't count it as a curse.
