Description
I remember the dayWhen I woke to screaming
And had no words to say.
When the sirens wailed
Instead of the baby
And no one could evade the pain.
And the blue lights
Were like lightning strikes,
Illuminating the nightmare.
In the street our friends stared
As the ambulance wheels screeched.
Dog's barking resounding
Like a demonic drumbeat
And they tried to calm her down
As they searched for a heartbeat.
Even though those blue lips,
Told them it was fruitless,
Even I knew it was useless.
The ambulance played no siren,
Driving painfully slow
Just to let everyone know
That there wasn't anything left to save,
Except the body for the grave.
Hiding under the table,
Shocked out of tears
Watching the policemen,
And learning new fears.
As they searched and read out rights
That were drowned out by her cries.
I still remember how stiff he was,
As she tried to breath life into him,
But he wouldn't accept it.
Tiny hands that used to clasp
Now did nothing.
