Description
A lot of people ask me, what the hell is cyberpunk? It's a genre of science fiction, focusing on modern trends, particularly the internet, and its impact on society. The general conflict of the plot is the power of said technology, and it falling into the wrong hands. Totalitarian Governments, MegaCorporations, Terrorists are only a fraction of Cyberpunk's possibilities.

Japan and Cyberpunk go hand-in-hand. Some famous examples include Akira, Ghost in the Shell and Appleseed.

Flag:
Anyways this flag is called the Yoakenohoshi, or 夜明けの星 in Japanese. It translates to 'Dawnstar' in English, and represents the dawn of a new era in Japanese history. Because the sun rises from the east the flag depicts a half-concealed sun on the right margin. The rays of the sun emit westwards, representing both the progress and westernization of Japan under this new government.

There are traditionally 16 rays on the Rising Sun flag, 8 red and 8 white. I tried to create a striped flag, but the even number of stripes makes the corners inconsistent. To compensate I added the black-and-red border on the top and bottom of the flag.

History:
Kim Jon-Un is assassinated at the age of 49 in Autumn 2032. His death was perpetrated by the North Korean government, but they accuse South Korea for the assassination. Within one week's time North Korea heavily militarizes its southern border, and the Korean War reignites on October 11th, 2032.

North Korea is condemned universally for the occupation of South Korea, and China ends its trade partnerships with the country. In response North Korea betrays her beloved ally, annexing large swathes of the Manchurian highlands.

Many Chinese and South Koreans seek sanctum in Japan. The Immigration crisis and the perpetual invasion by North Korean forces leads to the drastic restructuring of the Japanese government.

The Saito Administration is a one-party state, a military dictatorship to ensure the safety of Japan, and then return power to the Parliament. However, in 2038 the Japanese and Koreans agree to a ceasefire. The front lines have not changed in over ten years.

To many it seems the Saito Administration should of relinquished its power by now, but since the war is still ongoing there is no doctrine denying their legitimacy. Many Japanese yearn for a return to the democracy and the restoration of Emperor Naruhito.

An insurrection group, who themselves Fukugen, demand representation in government and freedom of speech. This has ushered the Japanese Civil War, referred to by the Administration as 'Dai Konran,' or 'The Great Confusion.'
