First installment in my 'War Simulation' series__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Backstory:
The Aceh Liberation Army takes power in Northern Sumatra after a major economic recession in Indonesia. They call for independence of the State of Aceh, and vow to establish an Islamic caliphate. To finance their conflict A.L.A terrorists hijack cargo freighters traversing the Malacca Straight, one of the busiest ship routes on the planet.
A.L.A piracy has slowed down international trade tremendously. This has damaged the well-being of the majority of nations, with the exception of Thailand, who has gained loans from generous contributors to build the Kra Canal, which would shorten trade in Southeast Asia immensely.
To prevent decline in Thailand's monopoly on international trade they supply the A.L.A with ammunition and sanctuary. A.L.A rebels seeking refuge in Thailand took advantage of their surroundings and encircled then seized the Malay Peninsula.
The A.L.A's conquest of Kuala Lumpur forces the Malaysian government in exile. The remaining provinces of Malaysia: Sarawak and Sabah, take the opportunity to declare independence.
The A.L.A's radical jihadists leads to mass executions of Christians, Buddhists and Hindus. Singapore, an ethnically Chinese island-state, becomes a casus-belli for the People's Republic of China, who secretly plan on capturing the Malacca Strait for itself. Terror attacks in the Andaman Islands also causes Indian intervention in the conflict.
The war is unpopular in the western world, despite its major impact of the world economy. Only a few airstrikes have been conducted, leaving the rising Chinese, Indian and Indonesian military's to challenge the A.L.A's expansion.
