Description I always did kind of like the Stan Winston Godzilla maquette. It always reminded me a lot of the Mosugoji suit (1964) that many of us have acclaimed as one of the best Godzilla suits ever. The only real problem with it, though, is that I HATE the color! (No offense, Winston). It just doesn't seem Godzilla like at all. So I took my hand at recoloring it to adopt the darker colors of the traditional Godzilla.

On the left is Winston's original maquette and on the right is my recolored version.

Winston's original maquette coloration looks more crocodilian than anything else...which makes sense inasmuch as both are amphibious beasties, but I agree that Classic Charcoal(TM) just seems a bit more fitting (not to mention regal). Incidentally, I've always been partial to the later Heisei version's optic mix: round pupils, amber iris, bloodshot sclera (the "whites"). This maquette's fiendish slit pupils seem like a better fit for one of Big G's rogues gallery-King Ghidorah in particular.

As for this recolor...the mouth/teeth seem a bit garish, but I do like that dark blue. The eyes really pop from a dark backdrop, so to speak.

Traditional Godzilla Color? I don't remember Godzilla being dark blue.

I personally see nothing wrong with Godzilla being green. However, it should be a dark green, borderline black. The green on the Winston model is too pastey, almost tannish.

I myself don't think red eyes fit Godzilla, but otherwise it is awesome. Has an almost Spacegodzilla feel to it.
