Final Fantasy III could refer to two games:
1. Final Fantasy III on NES, later remade for DS, iOS, and Android.
2. The US name of the SNES version of Final Fantasy VI.
In this case, we're dealing with number two.

There is no such thing as an "SNES9x version", since an emulator can play any game from a given platform. You're just playing a dump of the original game from the 90s.Β In FF6's case, it was marketed in the US as FF3. Therefore the title screen was changed to read Final Fantasy III, as it was the third Final Fantasy game released in the US, despite being the sixth in the series (FF2, FF3, and FF5 had not been released at that point).
