...okay. First thing's first: The artist's post is sorely lacking in information about exactly what Hera-Is is all about, and that's not the fault of the commissioner or the artist. This was commissioned on my behalf. Neither the person who commissioned it, nor the artist, know anything about Puzzle and Dragons outside of my insane flaming lust for their take on Hera. (Hera-Is happens to be my favorite variant.) People I've told about a devilgirl variant of Hera have been like "it's about damn time."
And for those of you who think that's all you need to know, no it's effing not.
Hera started as a Dark-Type unit in PAD as a boss in a randomly-appearing "Descended" dungeon. Along with being an asset to Devil-based teams, she has the "Ultra Gravity" skill, which deals flat damage in a game centered around combos. We'll get to that later.
She began getting variants, one for each of the other four types, shortly after. Hera-Is is the only one who 100% retains the Ultra Gravity skill. Most other variants don't get Gravity until the end. Most recently, the original boss Hera got a final form that is effectively a fusion of all 5 variants, and has one of the best Gravity variations yet (due to a text nuance). She also got two dragon variants, just like most other deities in the game. I want them. Badly.
N.B., too, that the original Zeus has a slightly stronger Gravity skill in, again, a game that sometimes punishes you for not making enough combos. However, it's not the same as Ultra Gravity.
Guess who does have the same skill? Hades.
To me, this tells of a very sad backstory in which Hera was either banished to the underworld or died by other means. (There is almost no canonical story for PAD. This is theorycrafting). Given that her variants are used to fully evolve other Greco-Roman deities that also happen to have "dark" versions, it's possible to craft a theory that Hades used Hera to try to take over Olympus...and darn near succeeded. We know she didn't because Hera and Zeus have a shared card with a better Gravity than Ultra (45% VS Ultra Gravity's 30%).
I really wish PAD would either confirm or deny that this is what happened. Hera's got a lot of salt in her own canon - is this a resolution of some sort? Japan seems to love her, so it just took a while.

Also, this is the ice variant of Hera, Hera-Is. Why they blended Norse runes into a Greek deity, I have no idea...but they were consistent.
