Description
I can't feel my hand :<Three hours of shading and that's only the trainer design portion. If I ever decide that backlighting is cool and I should do it again, someone hit me. Portions of it are so bad.
Started this back in January and am just finishing it today. Haha, I've been stupid busy.
After getting my scores back from "Natsuki" I realized that I didn't put a whole lot of effort into her design, back story or character (I really should leave my characters to their original purposes). So, I sat down and brewed up Mesi; a Pokemon trainer who was a trainer from the start.
Long description is long.
~~
Back Story
Born in Sunnyshore City, Mesi grew up just on the edge of the ocean. Cousins to the local electric-type gym leader, Volkner, she and her brother were well-known and expected to do “great things”. Her twin, Enki grew up adoring all things to do with the earth and was fascinated by the weaknesses that electric types showed to ground based Pokémon. Mesi was more interested in the sea.
When she was five, Professor Oak travelled to her city to give a lecture on oceanic legendary Pokémon. What he said that day changed Mesi’s view of Pokémon forever. It was on that day that she grew obsessed with Kyogre. Any trace of the legendary in a story would draw her attention. A mentioned statue made her scour the city’s history for the probability of a sighting. Even a passing mention of it in general conversation made her grill the one who uttered the name until she was sure she had all information of the sea basin Pokémon.
When she set out into the world at thirteen, her family was disappointed she showed no vigour towards helping in the operation of the city’s gym. Her brother became the favoured child and she lost almost all contact with her parents. Enki, however, kept in contact with his twin, constantly trying to convince her to give up her wild goose chase and return. He even spent some time abroad, hunting her trail to talk to her in person.
When Mesi left Sunnyshore City, heading inland to Pastoria City where a man lived who had supposedly seen Kyogre, the first person she ran across was an odd man in a dark trench coat. He promised her one of the strongest Pokémon, for the low price of 500 pokedollars. Excited, and naive to the ways of the world, she accepted.
She got a magikarp. Displeased with her purchase, to say the least, she continued on her way, allowing the fish to go for a swim every now and then when they passed a stream or shoreline. It was during one of these forays into a body of water that her magikarp was attacked by another Pokémon. An exceedingly lucky tackle lead to much cheering and her fish’s evolution.
She named the newly evolved gyarados Levi, short for leviathan, and was now able to travel the waterways much more efficiently. She soon became infatuated with the idea of pirating, donning the trademark pirate-y hat and tattooing herself and all her Pokémon with a jolly roger. Her team of six plus one did not just consist of water types; two of them left many scratching their heads.
She continues to hunt the legends of the seas, diving to the ocean floor and travelling to any distant land she can find. To date, she has travelled across Sinnoh, Orre, Unova and, of course, Hoenn. Five years have passed since she set out and she is unlikely to quit anytime soon.
Personality:
Mesi is a hard-headed girl; once she gets an idea, it is nearly impossible to sway her from her path. She’s not competitive in the least and prefers to watch battles than compete herself. She does take it upon herself to challenge other trainers every now and then, to keep her hot-headed Assault and mischievous Diabolito happy. She is highly imaginative and tends to have her head in the clouds. She is highly empathic and attempts to be friendly, though sometimes she comes off as abrasive when she is tracking information about Kyogre. She is fairly extroverted and impulsive.
The Team:
Levi
Female Gyarados
Level 85, Intimidate
Serious Nature
Move Set:
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
- Outrage
The first of Mesi’s Pokémon, Levi is the powerhouse. She is everything you would expect from a gyarados: moody, quick-tempered and downright mean. The only Pokémon on the team that she tolerates are Bonnie, who is often paired with her in double battles, and Dru. She can stand Kraken for short periods of time, but long exposure usually boils down to outrage and sludge bombs being hurled back and forth. Mesi has declared that these must stop, as most of the time she is the one who inevitably gets sludged.
When it comes to her trainer, the gyarados respects and adores her and will listen with keen interest, although she acts on her own will from time to time. Levi is also the main source of transportation for her trainer, taught through sheer force of will to keep her head above the waterline.
Assault
Male Sharpedo
Level 85, Rough Skin
Hasty Nature
Move Set:
- Crunch
- Dive
- Zen Headbutt
- Ice fang
Assault is the unofficial leader of the team. Or at least, in his mind he is. Pompous and confident in his own strength, he often attacks first and asks questions later. He has no care for strategy or moves that do not result in injury on his opponent’s side. Mesi spent weeks teaching him dive, convincing him that the move was worth his time. Assault’s final acceptance of the move allowed his trainer to explore the ocean floors more thoroughly, expanding her search for Pokémon of myth.
Assault gives Mesi a sort of grudging respect, but views his trainer as slightly foolish and will ignore any order that he deems “unfit for his supreme abilities”. These bad habits are countered by his more level headed partner, Battery.
Battery
Female Chinchou
Level 65, Volt Absorb
Docile Nature
Move Set:
- Thunder Wave
- Confuse Ray
- Thuderbolt
- Surf
Battery is Assault’s partner in crime and one is almost never released without the other. She follows any order given by her trainer to a tee and can cajole the hard-headed Assault into doing the same. She prefers to act as support instead of throwing herself into the fray, but will attack if ordered to do so. Her ability to surf allows her to take over for the larger Levi in shallow bodies of water, such as rivers and lakes, which is rather unappreciated by the grumpy gyarados.
Mesi is Battery’s cornerstone. Rescued from Team Galactic, she clings to Mesi whenever she is not aiding her partner or in the thick of battle. She takes a long time to become accustomed to new Pokémon, and tends to shy from any that turn an assessing eye her way.
Kraken
Male Octillary
Level 70, Suction Cups
Naughty Nature
Move Set:
- Ice Beam
- Signal Beam
- Sludge Bomb
- Flamethrower
The imp of the group, Kraken has had his fair share of beatings from his teammates. The only two who can stand his childish company are Levi and Bonnie, though Levi’s short temper frays quickly around the shiny octillary. His love for shooting things is reflected in his move set. He was a little depressed when Mesi decided that having hyper beam and aurora beam, as well as ice beam and signal beam, was a bit over the top (and not very strategic) and that he should broaden his horizons. He did so, but pouted for awhile after.
Kraken likes Mesi well enough, and will follow her orders in battle. The only time he really disobeys her is when she is trying to get him to stop firing sludge bombs at his teammates. When it comes to working with other Pokémon in battle, he is always ready to help out in the attack, even if the other battler is unimpressed with his antics.
Diabolito
Male Haunter
Level 80, Levitate
Sassy Nature, Life Orb
Move Set:
- Pain Split
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast
- Substitute
Diabolito takes the term pirating to heart. He will steal, pillage and ransack anything that he can get his detached hands on. When he is on the loose, Mesi spends a huge portion of her time returning items that he has picked up. The team sometimes wonders if he was a linoone in a past life. Named after a particularly cruel and ruthless pirate, Diabolito lives up to his name in battle. He abuses substitute and his life orb to cause more damage to the enemy when he finally utilizes pain split.
If there is one person on the planet he can stand, it is his trainer. He only listens to her in battle and despises working with any other Pokémon. He doesn’t listen to Mesi when she tells him not to steal things from others, but that is only because he believes that he is bettering her lifestyle.
She still hasn’t noticed that for every huge thing he snags, a little extra coin ends up in her wallet.
Bonnie
Female Sawsbuck
Level 65, Herbivore
Calm Nature
Move Set:
- Leech Seed
- Grasswhistle
- Aromatherapy
- Rain Dance
It was an odd day when Mesi decided that a Sawsbuck would make a great addition to her team of “pirates”. The other Pokémon didn’t understand their trainer’s mumbled words of “doctor” and “epic”, but all of them came to like the motherly figure after awhile. In battle she is there to help. With no moves that could directly hurt her foes, she is widely ignored until the opposition realizes just how much she is aiding her partners. She takes care of the others in a mother hen sort of way.
Bonnie has a soft touch with her owner, treating her as she would a child. She dotes on her and listens to instructions exceedingly well, only disobeying when the consequences would lead to injury to one of Mesi’s Pokémon or to Mesi herself.
Dru
Male Wingull
Pet
Dru “joined” the crew after Mesi and Levi’s first voyage out to see. He takes intense joy in watching the antics of the self-proclaimed pirate and her team, spending most of his time mocking anyone who will listen. Only Levi and Bonnie can tolerate him and Levi will eventually snap at him if she tires of his constant noise.
With no real bonds holding him down, he could leave at any moment, but continues to follow Mesi. He intends to do so until she finds what she seeks, or finally gives up.
He hopes it is the former.

Well, if that's not a motivator, I'm not sure what is! Hehe, I should make her get her drink on; it would end really badly.

Heh, I'm not sure if a welcome is necessary, as I entered another character and have been watching the group since November, but thanks for the welcome nonetheless!
