just making sure because there are a lot of people that are judging a movie without even watching it. When i went to see rise of skywalker on opening night different people throughout the theater were cheering and clapping.

To clarify in my turn, I grew up with the OT and think better of the prequels than most of my generation. So I know about having odd-man-out opinions. TFA was an uninspired rehash that undid the work of the OT, TLJ was a deconstructive insult, and TROS was an incoherent mess. Are there people that enjoyed it? Sure. But thankfully, the movie vastly underperformed. Maybe Disney will finally get the message, but I doubt it.

I enjoyed the movie but I admit it's not going to please everybody. we got all remember the Next Generation of star wars fans are growing up on the sequel trilogy so in 10 to 20 years they're going to be the ones wanting more content which will likely get in the coming years.

the prequels didn't please everybody, but everybody showed up to see them. Not so much this time. And odds are, when those kids grow up, they will be dissapointed in turn by what they get.

I don't think the rise of Skywalker's a financial failure because Box of wise since rise of Skywalker has actually made more money than Empire Strikes Back did when the flim originally released back in May 21, 1980.

you're forgetting inflation, thus each dollar earned is worth less, and overall increase in population, thus there are more people to watch the film. Now, compare it's opening box office weekend to it's Disney Trilogy contemporaries: TFA $247 Million, TLJ $220 Million, TROS $170 Million. Disney themselves admitted it was down from their initial expectations, which was at least $20M more than that.
You want to like the film, that's your choice. And I didn't say it was a financial failure (It wont lose money like Solo did), but I said it was a financial disappointment, which it was, and that not everyone showed up to see it like they did the prequels, which is also true. If you want to defend it's numbers, a better argument was the sour taste TLJ left in so many mouths.

ironically though Luke being a disillusionedn Hermit in Episode 8 is was what George Lucas had always intended in his sequel trilogy outline so I wonder if we would be having a similar conversation has George Lucas not sold to Disney and did the sequel trilogy himself, given that lucasfilm internally was planing to reboot the expanded universe/Legends as far back as 2011 which means everything that was post episode 6 would have been purged from Canon, I do think everything set before the prequel trilogy and set during the prequel trilogy would have been left intact such as the Old Republic era.
I do play Star Wars the Old Republic from time to time and that MMO breaks the lore of Left Right and Center, with the major lore break being the chiss ascendancy helping the Sith Empire when they're not even supposed to make contact with anyone in the main Galaxy until the event of outbound flight.

I have seen a video which described Lucas' proposed trilogy in some detail, yes. A Darth Talon-esque darksider would've seduced one of Luke's padawans. Wonder how--or even if--that would've gotten past. It's important to note that this was an outline that almost certainly would've been changed had those films gotten made. The very fact that Lucas was willing to sell out to Disney suggests he was unwilling to make those films himself. I maintain--as I did in commentary on that video--that a modified version of the Thrawn novel trilogy brought to the screen would've been better than either the Disney trilogy we got or the proposed Lucas outline.
The Old Republic games are entertaining, at least in their original storylines. Of course, the Chiss error you note and all others are handwaved as being so long ago that certain things are forgotten/lost, et cetera.
