Run away. Run away fast. She looks positively evil. The poor pig has no idea.

This is so funny and frightening that I had to fave it even though I generally don't appreciate posed photos of this type. The Addams family wouldn't have a quonset out back, but she looks like Tuesday (i.e., she's meant to be Tuesday, but really, it could be someone dressed up as Tuesday with whatever items were handy). It certainly looks like what Tuesday might do for her morning bacon. So this turns into a commentary on nostalgia, class -- even race and gender, though it would take quite a while to explain all of that resonance.
Compositionally, what's most striking is the white of the thumbnail poised over the black disk of the skillet, and that the "Tuesday" figure is standing on tiptoes. Meanwhile, the bright knife blade takes my eye to the blurred tail of the oblivious pig.
I checked out your gallery after seeing this, and found your "Family Medicine" piece. It's wonderful -- reminiscent of Dorothy Allison's Bastard Out of Carolina. It has that same effortless, understated quality. You should keep writing.

Thanks for the diplomatic way you point out my Tuesday/Wednesday error.
For some reason, when I was writing that post, I couldn't call the model
"Wednesday" (though that's the name that came to mind). "Tuesday" seemed
right(er). It didn't occur to me until after I had posted the note that it
was because she has a different hair style (no braids) and a different
dress (Wednesday, I recall, always had a white collar). So she's a combination
of Wednesday and her mother, Morticia, which in my unconscious must have
added up to Tuesday.
Anyway, it was too late to post all of this!
One of the best qualities of Allison's writing is its brutal honesty. I think
she writes about feelings in an apparently artless way, which really speaks
to the level of her craft. A lot of the effect (the tone, the dramatic tension)
in your "Family Medicine" piece comes out of its structure -- you compose not
at the sentence level, but at a more macroscopic/holistic level (oddly enough the way
you have to compose a photo). Allison's works have that kind of quality, which
is rare to find in writing.
