It saddens me to see Howard used as some joke or goofy cameo. People only see the guy as a punchline, editors took away his cigar (bastards !) and we still DO NOT HAVE a new collected edition of the greatest comic Marvel MAX has ever printed ! Yeah, forget Ennis' Punisher, Howard the Duck MAX is where that fucking line PEAKED.
Aside from the Steve Gerber stuff, mostly because I despise the notion of purism, I did warm up to some of the Bill Mantlo black and white magazine (it has boobs and a cynical misanthropic duck. What's not to love ? ). Then Steve Grant wrote a christmas parody...it was GLORIOUS. The "Material Duck" one-shot is also worth a look.
Later, Howard pops up in Generation X and is one of the best things about Lobdell's run (the least discussed thing about it to boot !) and the conclusion in Daydreamers RANG true to the character. Gerber might disagree, but i'd rather have Howard as a character and IN-character rather than a "I stick it to the man". Yeah I am aware of the "Leonard the duck" stuffn ( why do think I picked this design ?) BUT Steve did NOTHING with it CONCRETELY !
There is also Ty Templeton's Howard and... THAT mini-series , along "Cable and Deadpool", demonstrates how utterly fucking retarded Civil War is and reminds me why I fucking love Howard... even if they took his fucking cigar away. Fuck you Joe Quesada...

And then ? Nothing. Haven't read his Marvel Zombie appearance and the Zdarsky run ? FUCKING SPARE ME. I gave it a shot and it was one of the shallowest meandering ad catalogues I've ever laid eyes on. ANd I swear, seeing Squirrel Girl makes me wanna strangle babies...
