Before getting into the demonic, roach-filled and undead subject, have the warm-up ! I could have included the original script version BUT, there was not much to work with (you will understand why soon enough...).
So we've got :
* Movie Lydia, who's basically the only sane (alive and in-the-flesh) person in the whole flick. She is a supporting character both in role and nature. I mean, for all the "gloomy and dark" vibe she goes for and her snark, Lydia is pretty friendly towards the Maitlands and catches on pretty quickly that playing around with the occult is a BAD idea ! She also does not trust Betelgeuse and called upon him when the situation got damn severe for Adam and Barbara...
* Toon Lydia, my initial discovery of the character like a lot of kids back in the day. It is funny how Lydia is friendly, bubbly and chill and is best friend with the Neitherworld's resident scamming douchebag. You could say that she's more or less the angel on Beetlejuice's shoulder, which is unusual since they have a "kid and magic genie" dynamic in the show... and to its credit, the show is unusual !
* Musical Lydia, the dark reboot version of our dear Lydia Deetz... in the BEST way one can make a remake. And I do not mind remakes as long they nail the delicate balance of being recognisable enough AND distinctive on their own right ! When that is done, an experience can only be richer for it. In this version, Lydia is pretty much the main character. UNLIKE the movie and toon versions, THIS Lydia is genuinely gloomy and has quite the mean streak. It is however shown as a shield she built for herself due to grief for losing her mother and a tense relation with her dad. LIKE the earlier Lydias, she is responsible enough to accept the consequences for her actions. As intelligent and calculating as she is, the demon Betelgeuse ALMOST pulled a Ryuk over her... but, more on that later...

Now that I think about it, if BeetleJuice and Heathers got Winona Ryder AND musical adaptations, can we get an "Alien Resurrection: the musical" ? And how/what should the xenomorphs be singing ?!
