Fennec's can be pets depending on where you live, as for getting mauled, its still a none domestic animal, so it could but mostlikely wont.

It was just a little humor, don't expect them to actually maul me. But it reminded me of an episode of some cartoon I saw where the kid picked up a cat and it just beat the heck out of him.
