Generic comment: Cute

Extended comment: The colors and the delicate stripes make me think about glowing angels.... and shimapan.

Rant: If Photoshop's hating on you, try GIMP.

DevilsClap In reply to primetech [2010-04-21 12:30:57 +0000 UTC]

ahah thanks xDD; I hate gimp Im only using PS for the effects in the end the whole sketch lineart and coloring is done in SAI always.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

primetech In reply to DevilsClap [2010-04-21 12:57:25 +0000 UTC]

.___. but GIMP loves you... I'm finally playing with a tiny fan-extension called GIMP Paint Studio which (you guessed it) has more natural, feathered brushes, a better layout and some other fun extensions. More on that later...

I have about zero experience with whatever extended methods you used to make that look so colorful but I'd totally wanna learn regardless. The striped thing I *think* I could pull off, with... a black-and-white layer with a special mode maybe? >3<

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DevilsClap In reply to primetech [2010-04-21 13:08:00 +0000 UTC]

I used gimp back then but for some reason It doesnt wanna work when I use my tablet..
I mean I do the lineart and the flat coloring with my touchpad anyway
but still its annoying if I dont use it Im not gonna keep it on my laptop
so I have SAI!
and I need photoshop for making other things too like wallpapers and Icons
and my pics always have a lot of layers to end up looking like this xD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

primetech In reply to DevilsClap [2010-04-21 13:54:48 +0000 UTC]

oh, jeez... you probably shouldn't do lineart or coloring with a touchpad. Do yourself a favor and grab a USB mouse (or better yet, a tablet)... True to form I do all my lineart in a vector program like Inkscape (or... *cringes* Illustrator) if I get the chance.

How do you do that with a trackpad?

Layers are awesome, I love 'em >3< dissecting this picture would be totally fun but you'd probably not want somebody else stealing your style.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DevilsClap In reply to primetech [2010-04-21 14:19:04 +0000 UTC]

my laptop doesnt accept any mouse ..that is my problem ;A;
I do everything with touchpad and Im so used to it!
and linerating with touchpad is soooooo much easier than anything else
really ( or maybe it is for me as I only work with touchpad) xD

I cant live without layers I always have more than 12 lol

I cant stop anyone from doing what they want to
but it would be cool if people like it so much and try to do the same thing that they might mention they got inspired by a pic of me or something

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

primetech In reply to DevilsClap [2010-04-21 15:09:24 +0000 UTC]

well, I don't know about being totally inspired, but I would definitely try to steal, erm, copy some style ideas if I could >w< It would be almost impossible to take your picture apart without either (a) knowing what I'm looking for (impossible because, well, I don't) or (b) having your original, umm... PSD? But that's a detail.

Mostly, your picture works for you because it's your picture, exclusive in design and especially context... but the whole "stripes" idea is interesting still.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DevilsClap In reply to primetech [2010-04-21 15:20:00 +0000 UTC]

I dont have a psd sadly lol
I always delete it once I upload it.. sometimes I feel bad later on for doing this lol

the stripes thing.. I dont always use it but many times
I can also use different things than stripes
but it really depends on the colors of the people in the picture
sometimes those stripes and so just wont look good at all O_O

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

primetech In reply to DevilsClap [2010-04-21 15:24:27 +0000 UTC]

;A; you... you destroy data? [I can't remember the last time I deleted, well, anything...]

So true on the stripes. But I would still kill to use the trackpad as well as you, unless... do you use the Line tool, or draw a path with SAI?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DevilsClap In reply to primetech [2010-04-21 16:48:56 +0000 UTC]

I destroy data whenever I can it takes spaces on my computer
I keep a few pics like those I didnt posted on dA. lol
and some linearts ..and sometimes a few psd files or so.

I dont draw paths O_o..
the pen tool on Photoshop does right? but that bitchy thing drives me insane I CANT WORK WITH IT.I heard Gimp has apen tool as well which is much easier to use but yeah there is my problem with the tablet that for some reason wont work with gimp...
and using pen tool with touchpad is indeed hard..
I have another program on my computer that automatically corrects your lines. I used it at first when I learned about linearts its quite cool as you have lots of different pen lines to choose from
but I use Sai..mostly I dont evem have a proper lineart lol I sketch it with pen make a pic with "decent" lines ( as my sketches are omg terrible) and then I color..the part I hate so much and which takes me ages even when I rush it
sorry for the long reply ;A;

primetech In reply to DevilsClap [2010-04-21 16:57:08 +0000 UTC]

"Space" isn't a problem (these days) as much because running out of space can be fixed with buying an external hard drive, and it doesn't slow down computers unless it's extremely low. Bigger problems are RAM... but I won't lecture you about that unless you'd actually be interested in advice (I like to fix computers :3)

GIMP has a Pen tool (normal), as well as an Airbrush (goofy) and Ink (only good if you have a tablet) tool too... it also has a Paths thing which allows you to make a... path of line segments, correct them to your heart's content, and then stroke/brush them with the tool of your choice.

I think Photoshop does the same.

Vector programs like Adobe Illustrator, or Inkscape, allow you to make perfect shapes and fill them in... great for making and perfecting lineart, or for simple art. I've made lineart in Inkscape (e.g. Illustrator) and then taken it to GIMP (e.g. Photoshop/SAI) to color.

Does that help maybe, or give you ideas?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DevilsClap In reply to primetech [2010-04-21 17:01:40 +0000 UTC]

I dont have money to buy external hardrives that is the problem
I cant even pay my bills and like never have any food

OHH SOMEONE WHO USES AN ILLUSTRATOR! I never worked with one and always wanted to know how these worked exactly..my friend told me once when I got into linearting that Illustrators will do the Job for you but I never really believed her xD;

primetech In reply to DevilsClap [2010-04-21 17:12:30 +0000 UTC]

umm... well, Illustrator, Inkscape... they're graphics programs, but radically different from raster programs (like Photoshop, Painter etc) because they remember information with shapes, instead of pixels.

With Photoshop, a 50x50 picture will look terrible if it's blown up on your screen, but in a vector program, you never see pixels... it just recalculates and re-draws the shapes.

You can try it out for yourself... Inkscape is free at [link] just like GIMP.

primetech In reply to DevilsClap [2010-04-21 17:20:30 +0000 UTC]

don't diss it until you try it Inkscape is very easy to use but it's standards-compliant... e.g. it loads and saves the *only* vector format used on the Internet right now, SVG.

For a general idea of what it's good for, here's a picture I did with it: [link]
