Description
I am exceptionally proud of this piece but it is going to take a little bit of explaining. The basic concept is it's a tiny book necklace. Think of it as a locket but with room for more than one photo. You could turn it into a photo album, write a poem or message in it, anything you like.
The book measures just over 2 1/2 cm by 3. It has 21 leaves (42 pages to use) and closes with a magnetic clasp at the back. The book opens 180 degrees.
The chain is handmade from silver plated wire and fluorite beads.
The scale of the book made it very finicky and while the binding is hand sewn I had to superglue a lot of the cover. I'm going to be upfront and honest about this: In one or two places the superglue got out of control (as it is wont to do) and stained the material a darker purple. So if you feel handmade work should never have imperfections this piece is not for you. I just thought I'd make that clear, seems fair.
I would love for this to be a deeply romantic gift for somebody's wife/girlfriend. But I will settle for best friends, sisters that sort of thing!

This is probably the most beautiful locket I've ever seen! I can't believe it's even possible to make jewellery like this as a writer, a locket in the shape of a book is a very romantic & meaningful concept
Is this the only one or would you be able to make different lockets with varying jewels & colours? My mind is going crazy thinking about all of of the different combinations you could use for this type of locket

Thank you very much for the lovely comment. I write myself, as do many of my friends, so the idea was borne of very bookish people...
I could adapt this to pretty much any colour combination, chain type and adornments. I had loads of ideas for variations....this is just the one that got made.

Sorry that was a silly question you say it would cost £23 but would it be any more or less depending on the colour or type of gemstone I wanted?

Depends on the stone, unless it's particularly rare it would probably be the same price. The only thing that would really push up the price is if you wanted sterling silver or gold for the chain. Poke around my gallery to see if there are any other chain patterns you'd prefer/like/abhor.
Also, depending where you live, postage can sometimes add to the price a bit

Oh, & I live in the Forest of Dean, UK... would that be particularly expensive?

Well my stone of choice would be lapis lazuli, or ideally polished moon rock (but that would of course be incredibly difficult/expensive to get hold of! ) I like the chain in the picture, but I'm guessing with different colours it would look better with differently-coloured beads
I like the idea of a completely different colour scheme; lapis with a blue cover, a silver frame on the gem and blue/silver beads on the chain.
Sound like any good?

lapis lazuli should be fine, certainly for the cover.... not sure flourite goes great with blue stones, plus they have a totally different texture/luminescene, so you would need a different stone/bead on the chain
I'm in Ireland so UK should not be too expensive to ship

Thanks what kind of gem do you think would look good on the chain then?

thanks! It didn't feel like work - I just had the idea and kept running with it. If I'd known at the start where it was going I probably would never have tried

Thank you so much, it's very sweet of you to say. It's for sale if you like...

I love it!! Sisters like me...?
I like all the views, the only one less attractive than the others is the clasp one, but then again, the clasp is probably the least important one from an aesthetic point of view...
