A tutorial starring Hunter!

First and foremost, I created this tutorial because as far as I'm aware, there are no tutorials on this as of yet.

Secondly, if you want to have x-rotate bones on your model, my friend has done a tutorial on adding special bones to models (for PMD editor).
Here it is, if you want to check it out (it includes adding other cool bones):

Thirdly... there was a thirdly, but I've forgotten it now.

Ah well, doesn't matter.

And yes, I did learn this by myself mostly with experimentation and looking at official models with working bones.

What if I were to just make that bone's child bone (or what ever it's called lmao) the wrist bone instead of manually trying to "connect" it there?

I'm sorry if you've answered something like this before, I'm just really curious-
But thanks for the tutorial tho, it's really helpful c:

Other people have said the same thing, it might be that PMX Editor has updated since I made this tutorial. I don't have any suggestions as I don't edit MMD models in my spare time that much anymore, I'm sorry.

I think that's because MMD has updated this (I've not been using MMD for so long, since coming back to MMD a lot of my older models move differently now.)

For me and actually quite a few other people, this doesn't seem to work anymore. Instead of clicking that arrow, in the boxes with all the numbers put the same numbers as what the center bone has, that seems to work for me although I've not had time to fully test it.

It's usually the first bone (or second if you have a Master bone)

couldn't i just...........delete them? Would that work?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Devious-Bunny In reply to IAmTempestMedallion [2016-08-04 16:04:18 +0000 UTC]

I would suggest not for two reasons:

1. Deleting them means you obviously don't want to use them, right? So just don't use them. This only happens if you want to rotate the arm with a broken x-rotation bone. If you only use the elbow/wrist bones to do this, then this tutorial doesn't apply to you.

2. If you delete the bones, you will mess up the weighting of the model and will have to ensure you delete all the other bones that would then become unnecessary or won't move properly (these are usually "invisible" bones), and completely re-weight the model's arms. You might as well just not use the bones unless you're willing to dedicate time and a lot of patience to fixing the extra problems that would come with deleting them.

It is entirely your choice, just be sure you know what you're doing and the model should work fine.

The model i have has the x bones but when i rotate something on the arm that isn't the x bone. It
goes are weird and ugly. I don't like x bones on my models.

Devious-Bunny In reply to IAmTempestMedallion [2016-08-05 16:06:40 +0000 UTC]

If you don't use the x bones, then they're not actually what's causing the model to look weird and ugly. X bones, when working properly, make posing look a lot nicer without the unnatural pinching-appearance.
They don't affect the elbow and wrist bones, so if those are going weird but you haven't touched the x bones, I think that is more of a case that for some reason (I've not used MMD for about a year, just got back to it) bones don't seem to rotate the same way that they used to, I have to edit a lot of my models to fix the issue.

No, the rigging is fine. Read the tutorial before commenting, this is those "x-rotation" bones, used for better posing.

I'm still having issues with this, I have tried to fix it but when I try to follow it, I can't find any of the stuff that they show in the tutorial at all.

Devious-Bunny In reply to AxelliaSteel [2016-05-31 14:53:03 +0000 UTC]

All I can suggest is that you make sure you're using the most recent version of PMX Editor.
Also, if you are using Windows7 or later, make sure that before you unzip the file you right-click it, select "properties" and select "unblock" (button near the bottom) because sometimes, if you don't do this, it can mess up the program.

Hi, uhm, I'm sorry for bothering you but it seems like this doesn't work on my model I've done all the steps but I still get the weird rotation. The bone is pointing at the hand and I've pressed the "axis limit" and ">" buttons, but nothing. Any ideas? Thank you for your help!

You don't click the "axis limit" button, you click the "local" button. c:
