I actually believe you're starting out pretty well with the colored pencils! Blending different colors together and paying attention to light and dark is a good way to go.
For the character, I like her outfit, but you might want to watch her feet. imagine a ground plane for her to stand on to make sure the feet are planted realistically.
I'm liking all of her accessories, and the expression is cute. I like those skulls, especially!
