warhammer 40000 has some strong allusions that it's space marine concept is taken from the mid-ages, with witch hunts and knights etc, it would be same to assume the most distinguished of knights would decorate their armor with similar signs of authority, possibly intended as intimidation towards the foe or inspirtion & boost of morale to their own men.

I like the gold decorations and such that marine commanders wear.
But I must ask a question: why are they putting these '' shoot me I am a commander '' neon signs on? Surely a small rank badge would do just fine without making you an obvious target.

oh yea i just noticed the wording of RULED the blood angels for 1100 years, which meant he still had a fair amount of time spent below the rank of chapter master
i mean cassius is 400 years old and he still isnt chapter master xD
