I think you have done a great job.. especially as your first attempt! It is very easy to get carried away with HDR and you have done well to keep the image toned down while still achieving some extra detail.

It's an amazing photo and you made it stay natural-looking, which is tough to do with HDRs.
My only criticism is that you don't really need to do an HDR for an image like this. They're for when there's a large difference between the brightest highlight and darkest shadow. For instance, if there was a scene you wanted to capture that had a bright sky and an area shaded by trees you might want to use an HDR.
Still, I think the HDR helped the image a little and I love the composition.
