Description Decided to try out gimp! I'll probably use this to make better animations then i could with easytoon! I WOULD try flash, but the learning curve for that program is just not newb friendly. But I probably will end up using flash in the future, if I keep making animations.

8 frames, 12 fps

when I finish doing this lil gig for someone I will try walk you through flash if you have it. it's really dead simple, at least how I remember it. it's all about setting your key frames, knowing the timing and doing key inbetweens and then walking through it pic by pic.
the animation is good! the landing could do with a probably an extra frame for easing the expansion of the ball.

Ooooohhhh, does GIMP have a good animation setup? I actually really like Photoshop's, it's incredibly simple, though it doesn't run by fps but rather fractions of a second... still, lookin' forward to this! C: Our intro to 2D class's first assignment was a bouncing ball that rolled to a stop or off the page, so that could be fun to try!

depends really. Photoshop does have a fps setting, but actually animating in it was tedious, trying to slip in extra frames when the animation was moving to fast/slow was tiring and a nightmare. going through each layer to lower the opacity for onion skinning and then raising it all back u...ugh all I remember is wishing for my lines to come out like how it does in photoshop but with the ease of the timeline in flash.
my prayers were slightly answered with toon boom animate, with elements of both flash, photoshop and even after effects.

anyway. if you want to set ps to fps its: window>animation> and then in the animation window do convert to timeline.
from there click on that icon on the top right with the arrow pointing down with the lines next to it and go to document settings. there change the fps to your choosing. and then he nightmare comes.
I've never played with the frame animation precisely because I couldn't set my fps. "fraction of a second??? whattt?? where's fps O__O" when I get good with my drawing skills I might revisit animation. when you are made to create your own animation by yourself and you are heavily influenced by the epic scenes of cartoons, when you try to replicate it, you see how flawed your fundamentals as an artist is nothing but depression Ughhhh

Ahhhhhhh I see, I'll have to look into that! I've just stuck with the fractions of a second thing, since it was so insanely convenient... @_@;; Agreed, Toon Boom is kinda better anyway... xD (Except for its tendency to crash. 8( )

And pffffftttttttt ohgod yeah, you're just like, "OH THIS CAN'T BE SO HARD" and then hours later you're just crying, crying. ;-; Animation is THE HARDEST THING. NOTHING IS HARDER. D8>

it's actually pretty simple... in concept. But it's kinda tedious >_> That and, Gimp's UI sucks ass. lol

and that sounds like a good idea 8D i might try that too~
man i wish there was an animating class at my school ;w;

I managed to sneak into an intro to 2D animation class, and man yeah animation just teaches you SO MUCH. D: I'd love to help out if you need any tips/suggestions for beginning animations!

I remember this exercise. xD The animation is alright (although a bit slow in my opinion, makes it feel a bit floaty otherwise.) Be careful with your volume consistency when you squash-and-stretch the ball, looks a little bit fatter for a split-second when squashed.
