Description ummmm....mucked around with terragen (took a image entirely zoomed out from my terrain) and then thought i'd combine with some of my recent (and still developing) space skills...and came up with this...would have liked to work on it more but i got over it so i finished it up ~2 hrs PS work

i changed the reflection of the planet as i didnt notice it was skewed whenn i submitted i

FULL VIEW please...the thumbnail doesnt do it justice (well i think so anyway)

now this isn't too bad for a start, basic elements are in order, however combining them all together, (which in fairness is the most difficult part) needs a bit of work. the main thing that stands out is the terragen... by enabling a high camera angle, and seeing a view to the "end of the world" (end of map) - it looks very false... a lower camera (50m above water?) would serve you much better. As far as terrain goes, it's perhaps a little too simplistic, some textures and more complex terrain may benefit. For terrain resource s(which most, if not all good terragen artists use) - check [link] register, and download some terrain files. Try using them

Space isn't bad, the planet is ok although it screams lunarcell at me... + dinyctis has an awesome planet tutorial that i used, and so has ~ucd , these would make your planets seem more real the stars are fine, no improvement necessary, and the asteroid effect looks nice.

one thing i wil say though, is that space/tgen scenes rarely work in the day, so try lowering exposure, or increasing the sunset density in the atmosphere in terragen to about 75%. Render WITH sky (cos some effects will look stupid without), but ensure that it's a dark sky, with relatively little, or no clouds. That should help the transition

Hope these tips help!

thankyou for your commens mate - as i said i have a lot of respect for the level of work u do so anything u say is great to me...
thanks for the links for tutorials and resources...
and yes it was lunarcell - i had been creating my own planets off tutorials but i didnt plan on using a planet in this piece...and then when i decided i needed a planet lazy old me took the shortcut (cos sometimes i get bored with my works and wanna finish them quickly)...anyway yeah thanks again champ and keep up the good shit aye

From the middle down, I really like this picture. The reflection's great, well done. The globe though...doesn't look very realistic. There's no colors other than green...and the water's color is off...even though this may not be "earth" but the same geological rules kinda apply. Anyways, rambling. For future pics, use this site as a reference for planets [link]

take care

I like the picture but I think the planet's colour interrupts the piece a little. It's size is always awkward. If you could change the colour maybe?

thankyou demi- interesting idea about the colour...will have to consider that in my next one

It's such a surreal looking picture, not to mention that I love anything that has to do with space, especially outer isions of the Earth, because it's just such a damn pretty planet when we're looking at it from far away.

I like this a lot, as you can see.

I really like the reflections and coloring job. All the clouds look pretty cool, and I like the detail of the mountain island thing, it looks a lot more realistic then what I have done

devora In reply to saebin [2004-02-26 07:38:35 +0000 UTC]

hahaha thankyou- i found it hard to try to achieve a realistic look whilst trying to keep the image looking like a fantasy world...

asteroid not too tacky?
it was my first attempt at an asteroid so i made it small so as not to be the focal point
thanks for the comment

This really is amazing. I love the reflections in the water and the colors you used kida gives this a fantasy-like feel to it, maybe even dreamy in a way. Very nice
