Description It was unnatural for Princess Zelda to wake up in the middle of the night, but panicked voices in the distant corridors had awoken her from her slumber.  She opened her eyes to find an elegantly designed but practically empty room.  In fact the only items of importance were the burning fireplace adjacent from her, a mirror near the side wall turned away from her sight, and the cushions that she was presently laying on which hardly constituted as a bed in her opinion. The only doorway there was appeared to be leading to a balcony of some sort, where the moonlight shown in and added to the room's purplish hues. Zelda groaned and rolled on her side to face the fireplace as she started the search through her memory as to why she had ended up in this predicament or at least close her eyes to retrieve a few more minutes of slumber.  She felt different somehow but she couldn't quite put her finger on it and didn't bother to investigate.
However her thoughts were interrupted as the sound of footprints into the room caught her attention. She opened her eyes once again and faced the direction of the sound. Standing in the entryway from the balcony to the room stood a white horse clad in gold armor, similar to the type of armor Epona would wear on formal occasions.  The colt's face appeared to be one of shock. Then the horse did something Zelda never expected.

It spoke.

"Princess Celestia! What happened to your hair?!"

After he spoke those words the princess jumped up to her feet but then stumbled backwards at the awkwardness in the movement, landing on her backside.   It perplexed her until she glanced down at what was supposed to be her arms and legs.  Instead she had hooves, each in a similar shade of a saturated light pink.  They matched her body where after wincing in the pain of having landed on them she noted the outstretched wings of the same hue.  She then moved her limbs into what she knew as a fetal position, to where she identified a floating golden mass as a tail of some sorts that matched with the other mass on top of her head.  The only comfort of home was the mark on the side of her hind leg which was the familiar image of a red symbolic eagle.   Tears welled in her eyes at that thought that she was no longer hylian and she hid her face in the floating entity of a mane to hide her emotion.

The colt backed away slowly, both in respect and in utter shock, wondering what had happened to the beloved princess Celestia for her to react and look so strangely.  Zelda barley even noticed him till he had spread out his wings from under his armor and flown off, leaving her to her thoughts. Slowly after regaining her composure she stood, now on all four hooves.  She related the movement of walking to that of crawling, like a small child. It felt barbaric but oddly natural as she trotted to the mirror and turned it with her hoof to face her. 'Was this a dream?' she contemplated as she stared at the refection.  She now noticed that she had another feature that had gone unnoticed. On top of her head between her new ears was a horn. Zelda had heard of creatures such as unicorns and pegasi in fairytales, but only few contained the legendary alicorn.  She could have gotten lost in those fairytales had it not been for the task at hand.  Zelda needed to investigate three things. Why was she like this, who was responsible for the transformation, and where was she? As she started looking for clues, one more question emerged.

Was this even real?

-+++-

"Prince Blueblood?" The veteran soldier called for the fifteenth time "Prince Blueblood we are in need of assistance would you at least answer me?" Still no answer.  The guard would have preferred to leave the prince to his beauty sleep but they had no other options at this point.  "Prince Blueblood, this concerns your Aunt-" the soldier winced at using the word in relation to the princess, as it suggested that the unicorn behind the door and the beloved ruler were actually related  "Celestia is in need of your help."

Finally a voice called back "What would my dear auntie need at this hour?  Doesn't she know I always need my beauty sleep before dealing with those wretched commoners"

The guard restrained himself from charging into the prince's quarters. "Just look outside Prince Blueblood."

Reluctantly the prince obeyed, replying nonchalantly "So? The night sky is not different than any other I have seen."

"It's ten o'clock in the morning Prince Blueblood"

The guard sighed in satisfaction as he heard footsteps from behind the door, knowing that the prince had finally gotten up.  Now if only the prince could disregard personal hygiene during this time of crisis-

"I must brush my mane first!"

This will take a while.
