Description So this is a one hour sketch of a Tarsier eye (that hour includes scanning repeatedly).
Never done a W.I.P before, so I thought I should. As you can see I don’t really have a specific pattern when drawing. I just do which ever part comes to mind first. I do however make the odd light mark here and there to plot some stuff, but that’s minor.
There was a few more in between stages, but it was 3am when I did, lack of sleep made me forget to save them….ooops. I spotted this image of a tiny tarsier in a book called ‘Rainforest Safari’, though this is only a quick sketch I think I managed to capture its woolly fur coat quite well with rough pencil marks.

Created using 2B and HB with black fine liner.
Single panel size: 50mm x 90mm (tiny)

Wow this is cool. YOu seem to focus all on one area till its complete and then move to another area and continue expanding. I lay my whole piece out in rough and work on the whole thing at once. Good work.

Very very nice man! This came out pretty cool, I actually thought this was a wash at first.

....I work in exactly the same manner---start with the eye and work my way out in all directions. I've never been one to do and entire layout in light pencil and then fill in. Start with the eye and head in all directions!!
SUPERB drawing!!!

This guy is awesome! My drawing style in terms of progress is similar, I start where I feel like I should and gradually work outwards. You did a great job on his fur, drawing fluffy things is really hard for me. Crazy to think that the ancestors of this species used to live more or less all over the world, even North America!

Indeed it is, there's not many of these around now as far as I'm aware.

Thank you for the comment

I love seeing WIPs! People can learn so much from them. You did a wonderful job of capturing the texture of the hair and the debt of the eye. You are braver than I am in regard to putting in the dark areas under the fur. I think most people (including myself) would try to draw the fur rather than the shadows.

Have you ever used scratch board where you draw/scratch the negative areas instead of the positive? The way this was done might work well with that medium. It really blows my mind that this was done through an additive process rather than a reductive!

I have taken various approaches when drawning hair and fur in the past. Luckily the photo I based this on had quite a bit of depth to it. Given the fact that these creatures have a thick coat, made it easier to do the shading instead. Usually I do thousands of lines and marks of different tones, build up that way.

I have used scratch boards before, but not in a long time.

Glad you like it
