I know I've sort of dropped off the face of the planet, in regards to keeping up with those I watch. Your drawings have always fascinated me, with the interesting style you go about with in these drawings that you do. You apply so much boldness in the subjects, and create amazing contrast doing so. I think my favorite aspects of this piece are the rose and the shell of the tortoise. I love the blood red and attention grabbing color, it does much justice for the overall composition. The values are so so smooth and flowing in this. It makes for a very somber look.
I love your work, and always have, even though I don't do much to comment anymore. I apologize with all of my heart, you're an excellent artist, you deserve all of the support in the world.

I love turtles & turtle relatives. I'm more experienced with fresh water turtles though. I think this is the most unique tortoise. alligator snapping turtles are unique too. Thus the same age. I just really love these creatures. By the way great job on that picture.

What a glorious homage to a truly magnificent creature... romanticised, humanised in the facial expression... and just beautiful.
Thank you for sharing

Really beautiful design. Beautiful colors and well smudged out. The rose makes this work extra interesting. It's a great accent in the drawing. Very nice color contrast, and great composition.

Marvelous creature and you draw it excellent. I like the details and especially the shading. You did a great work as usual. I think that the rose put some magic in this drawing.

wow... this looks incredible! such a different style for you too. really great work. Only thing im not completely crazy about is the red rose it doesnt really seem to belong imho. but it is a gorgeous rose.. maybe it would fit better in my eyes if there was a hint of red somewhere else in the pic ..or around the border.

I did try changing the boarder, added red but i didn't like the final version, so I changed it. I just decided to stay with one area of red. Thank you very much

....AMAZING....BEAUTIFUL....STUNNING....
...may I ask, what are Derwent Artist Colors---are they akin to Prismacolors...?

Much appreciated.
Those are very vibrant colours, rich in saturation to give great effect. If you happen to get any, you will see that pressing hard gives them a bit of a glow, bit like sunlight, especially on black paper, they are shown for their true saturation on black card.

I just ran with it, saw the image of a wise old Tortoise in an animal book, started sketching, and several hours later this is the result. The black boarder does add to the effect though.
