Until the Community can get the game running again, Splatoon 1 has become lost media.

Ever since the Nintendo shut down the Wii U and 3DS servers, many multiplayer games and eshop exclusive games are now in the void with the original Splatoon game being one of the most impacted as over 80% of the game cannot be played except for the short single player component. Here the original Inklings "Kaori" (OG Inkling Girl) "John" (OG Inkling Boy) "Mizuho" (Lime Green) "Rui" (Purple) "Laura" (Magenta) and "Pit" (Cyan) trapped in the endless void as their "world" ceased to exist when the servers shutdown. Of course the Splatoon series continues to lives on the Nintendo Switch and Beyond and conically, these characters are not lost but continue to live on in the Splatoon world

While its sad to see many multiplayer games on the Wii U shutting down, I’m more concerned that as with many older multiplayer games servers shutting down is that there isn’t a way to fully play and enjoy the game fully years down the line when you want to play again. Honestly, the developers and publishers should enable these old Multiplayer games to be run by the community along with direct LAN connections so even when the game is no longer supported, they can still be fully played regardless of no developer support. But that is mainly wishful thinking and on the bright side the community doing what they can to run and operate multiplayer on unsupported games even though its not official, a legal Gary area, not to mention the cost to host and run servers. Kudos to all those in the gaming community trying their best to persevere video games as much as they can when the companies don’t.

To those concerned regarding the server shutdown of multiplayer games and its impact on preservation and playability. Consider joining the movement for legalisation for more user control and for the community to able to host servers after developer support ends.
