hey man, you are awsome. I have a serious question all bullshit and pride aside how much time do you spend drawing each day, I mean actual drawing time. I have a full time job that is not art related so I have to make time to draw whenever I can which is about 3 to 3 1/2 hours a day. Next year i'm going to Seattle to learn how to tattoo, all I will be doing is drawing and studying tattooing when I get there. I see all these great artists and I really want to know what kind of study habits they had to have to get to that kind of skill level.

I ink full time, as well as do some writing, so I don't find much time to actually draw anymore. Drawing with ink, I'm probably putting in about 8-10 hours a day, and sometimes more when the workload demands it.
As far as people not in the field, and holding down day jobs, it's just a matter of finding the time to do it each day. You're off to a good start. Always remember that there will always be someone out there hungrier...holding down 2 jobs and drawing through the night until daylight. So always push yourself if this is something you want to do.

thank you for the advice, I bet your skill level really took off when you started doing this as a job instead of making time.

Sweet inks! What do you ink with? Brushes? Nib-pens? Fine-liners?

Awesome pose, your not gonna stop the Hulk! I don't know if you were going for it, but his hair looks old school and reminds me of the original Hulk books, great job.

Yeah I think the pencils were patterned after that old school look to him.

I cheked him, his stuff is really cool! Butin the case of this picture I especially meant your inking: I think the combinatian of the bold lines and thin hatching gives this piece an old-schooly look allthough the forms are more - I don't know - capcom-like? Ithink thats a cool combination. And again, I really love how you did the hair.

Cool thanks. Yeah come to think of it...he does have sort of a bold capcom style to him. I know Jon likes Ed McGuinness' and Keron Grant's work, so that might have something to do with it.

Awesome anatomy on him. Looks really great. Nice line work too, reminds me of Frank Cho's new Avenger stuff.

Definitely a high compliment for Jon! His good anatomy is what stood out to me when I saw his art here on deviant art for the first time.

Someone's been sniffing the pencil led too much (and you just thought us inkers had those type of problems).

Wow I this is a nice pic but what does crappy anime have to do with it? I know a lot of traditional crappy artist out there as well. Good art is good art and this my friend is some great inks. Of course you already knew that.

Thanks man. Jon's pencils are always fun to work on. Add to the fact, this was a lil birthday sketch from him...and it was a treat. Before long, I'll be able to say I knew him before he became a big star. heh

This is true. I love your inks my friend. You really have nice control and understand the pencils you are working from and that is a rare quality in inkers today.

I appreciate the compliment. It can be a chore (or even a challenge...nope, just a chore) to work over bad pencils. But I've been lucky to work over a lot of really good ones.

It's nice to see that despite the huge surge of crappy (and let's face it half of them are in fact crappy) anime fan-art there is still some talent that does in fact do fan-art
Great job!
