Description
de.par.ture \ n 1: the act of going away.__________
it happens to all of us at some point.
one way or another.
__________
tinkering with some new textural techniques.
working from a book by maxine masterfield called 'painting the spirit of nature'.
saw this piece by marti m. fenker in the book and thought i'd try my hand at her(?)
technique to recreate it.
also threw in a few of my own.

Wow...
The word that comes to mind when I see this, is duende .
This just draws me in. The colors, the tiny flowing lines. The actual feeling of flight. This is truly beautiful.

nice work, I'll have to look her up to see what techniques are involved. It's very unusual, there are hints of things that could be something else, if you know what I mean.

There is something very archetypal in this work - the rich colours and textures. I can't quite put my finger on it. Which leads me to believe you've succeeded. One should not be able to actually place one's finger on the spirit on Nature... A very lasting image. Well done.

YAY!!
I'd been wondering where you wandered off to lately. I've truly missed your watercolor works and had begun to fret that I'd seen the last of them. Im delighted to be wrong.
...But, you know... Dont get USED to it or anything.

Oh very cool! I love the thin lines along the butterfly-thingy's head... lovely colours and great balance between the flowing watercolours that are very loose, to the more controlled fine lines as details....

dholms In reply to OhAnneli [2006-10-24 13:48:08 +0000 UTC]
thank you so much for that excellant comment!
you pretty much nailed the technique as well.
things did start out loose and spontaneous working
wet on wet. then later after things had dried i sorta
went with the flow and added detail.
thanks again!

well thank YOU for such a lovely image
I love traditional art because it's so wild and free. I loove digital as well, but the difference is as with tame kittens and wild lions, one of them can not be 100% domesticated...
(do you say that? my english sometimes fail me )
Keep up the great work!

I quite like it, what i like the most about it are the textures and the warm colours as well as you taking something so special and delicate in nature and transforming it into something dreamlike, recreating it, as if giving it birth and new meaning. Butterflies are always special, delicate and simbol of rebirth, transformation, it is departure from real world into a place of the mind heart and soul.
