I tried, I really did. But as soon as my daughter and I were afflicted – mutated – everything changed. We’ve been evicted – my landlord said we were too dirty. Public spaces like libraries won’t even let us in. Lizzie’s school claimed she was disruptive, and kicked her out. We’re not even on the periphery of society, really. We’re garbage. And sure enough, we’ve been thrown away. No social institution protects people who look like us.

We’re people, the same as them! We don’t deserve to be treated like trash. But even if we aren’t people, we’re just pigs! Can’t we be treated like fellow mammals, at least? Why is that so much to ask?
