Sincerely, to me is an unnecessary lost of horizontal space, and hate the impossibility to customize anything (the icons, controls, etc.). And in my system (4 core processor, 4 Gb RAM and 1 Gb Nvidia GC) icons need between 5-10 seconds to appear over the dash.

It's an interesting idea but, in my opinion, it wouldn't be noticeable enough (especially at smaller sizes).
A good way to go about this, I feel, is to only place the brightly coloured launcher background behind in-focus apps, all other apps that are running have the same launcher background but at a considerably reduced opacity: remember that people remember visual objects by shape first then colour, but considering that the icon shapes are largely void on the Unity launcher, we have to be clever with colours instead.

Try it with the Faenza Icons... I won't use anything less.

Faenza icons look brilliant on the Unity launcher but to try and illustrate a point I think using the default icons is more appropriate. Although I think Ubuntu should defo adopt the Faenza icons as default instead of spending 2 years creating a new icon set.

I don't think that's enough! To be honest, I kept staring at it for a while before reading the text below, and I couldn't find any differences between them (except that some don't have indicating arrows).
Also, that'll require it to load a 2 different file for each running application! ... I am not sure.

I understand your concern but its still a work in progress and once I have more time I will probably alter the design and try to make it more obvious which application is in focus. But I think this 2 arrow approach is over the top.

I'd prefer a Docky/AWN approach that used one arrow on the far side to show a running program and multiple arrows/dots/indicators-of-some-kind to show the number of open windows or instances.
