First, sorry for my english but it's not very good.
It's easier when the sun is low on the skyline and then, I underexpose (you have to make several test) or you can use the spot mesure of light on the sun to expose correctly the sun.
When I was working in argentic, I used a gradient filter for this result and it was a good solution.
Take good shoots !

If i underexpose the sun, the background will be very black right?

DigitPhil In reply to jasperclyde [2012-07-11 15:40:52 +0000 UTC]

yes it will ! but you can use a post treatment with photoshop or lightroom to lighten the dark light but be careful because you can have artefact or big noise. If the sun is high in the sky, it could be better to use a gradient filter (neutral grey)very dark at the top and very clear at the bottom with the exposure in the middle. I hope I am understandable !

yeah i understand. i ask for the price of that filter here in the Philippines and it cost 119 US Dollars (converted) so expensive for a glass. is there another way to achieve it without the filter? Thanks. yah i can do it for the post edits
