You are way too hard on yourself. That is a good composition with a great grasp of textured shadings. Look at the lower level of the drawing, or the cloak. You think someone without skill can do it?
No chance.
Keep updating this as you can, the end result will only feel great to you. Work on the cloud areas, especially around the lightning bolt and fill it up with the same kind of shading. Trust me, the piece got the mark of a great drawing.

Well, you are right and not right. To be clear, i will explain. I made this picture cca in year 2005. I did not use pencil for a serious picture for about 6 years now. I have not done any pictures. When i tried last year, it was like "my hands do not obey me". This is why i think "no skill". Now i am trying to draw with tablet, which is quite different for me.
Another thing - this is first time i was trying to do clouds or surrounding, not just the main motive. Maybe i got better with clouds (if you look on my angel picture), but i still have no idea how to draw sea... or even any water. So i'm in doubt if the picture would turn out well.
I don't see much probable that i finish this with pencil. At the same time it bothers me, because i still like the picture. I saw a decent pencil "simulation" in corel painter IX (30 day demo came with the tablet), maybe artweaver had it quite nice too... but i think that would still look like "mixed media". To be honest, i don't know if i try or not, but definitely not anytime soon.
Thanks for the comment, you sure made some confidence boost for me.

dihitsu, that angel picture looks really good to the eye! Did you use pentablet?
I don`t think you should be afraid of touching the other picture again, it got quality. If you don`t want to touch it directly, usea copy of the file and touch it with pentablet. That is better in such a case because you can do it by trial and error. Just try it, you might be surprised.
As for the sea, is not something easy because of how reflective it is and how the mass swirls and changes. It`s also one of the things where simply looking at actual waves won`t be enough. Do look at waves photos (surf magazines are great for that) but also how other artists chose to render them. You may find some options that work for you so you can try it yourself.
