Description
This is another fan piece I did for Dino Riders. This is a request by a guy who runs a Dino Riders website that I have donated art to in the past before coming to Deviantart. Now that I am doing Dino Riders fanart again, I asked him if I could do any requests for him and he asked for a Brachiosaurus. Here we see the Brachiosaurus in full battle armor. The creature is like a titanic battle platform, escentially a giant walking juggernaut with an array of weapons elevated to higher ground by the dinosaur's size. The Brachiosaur is armed with neck mounted cluster rockets, shoulder mounted plasma blasters, leg mounted laser blaster, a rotating attack platform, and many other weapons that aim in all directions, all attatched to a large caban that is mounted on the beast's back.
My idea for the Brachiosaur is that it is kind of a replacement for the old Brontosaur. Anyone with a semi-decent knowledge of Dinosaurs knows that Brontosaurs is no longer a scientiffically accepted name, and the beast once know as Brontosaurus is know known as Apatasaurus.
Besides, the role of the Brontosaurus, a dinosaur that is even bigger then the Dino Rider's 'Flag' dinosaur, the Diplodicus, I think is better filled by the Brachiosaurus, who is much larger the a Brachiosaurus as opposed to basically the same size with Apatasaurus.
So yeah, enjoy the pic.

They changed the Brontosaurus to Apatasaurus! They can't just change names, that's confusing >< They probably have a really good reason though (or should)
Nice armor and weapondry

Well, the reason for the name change actually had to do with a mix up in bones. The Creature known to early Paleontologists as "Brontosaurus" was actually an amalagimation of 2 different dinosaurs, primarily the body of the Apatosaurus with another similar Sarupod (the family of dinosaurs to which creatures like Diplodocus, Apatosaurus and Brontosaurus belong) called a Camerasaurus. When it was discovered the dinosaurs head was mixed up when they found the real skull, the changed the name. The primary difference is that the "Brontosaurus" had a blunt, short skull, sinse the skull of the Camerasaurus was blunt, while the dino's true skull was a lot longer and pointed, similar to the skull of the Diplodicus.
Why they changed the name, I'm not certain, but it probably had to do with the notion that the creature being displayed as the Brontosaurus wasn't real, and was an amalgimation of parts, no more real in a sense then a Jackalope.
Hope that makes sense. And thank you though, glad you like it. I was asked to make the weapons more detailed for this pic, so I tried to imitate the style of weapons seen on the toys.

Oh, so that does make sense then; we can't really have imaginary dinosaurs now, can we ^^
